Delaware Pride Seeks Grant Requests
The board of directors of Delaware Pride announced today the opening of
requests for proposals for its 2004 Community Grants Program, an initiative
designed to support organizations promoting equality and services for
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people in Delaware. In
addition, Dela-ware Pride will consider proposals from graduate-level
students who are researching the lives of LGBT people. This is the fourth
year that Delaware Pride has offered grants to other non-profit
organizations.
Delaware Pride will award up to $2000 in grants to at least one of the
following:
• Delaware nonprofit organizations that provide services beneficial to
LGBT people in Delaware
• Full-time, graduate-level students who are residents of Delaware or
who are currently enrolled at a university in Delaware and are pursuing
studies related to the lives of LGBT people and who will use the grant for
research or for travel expenses to present at an academic or professional
conference
Complete grant information can be found on the Delaware Pride website at
www.delawarepride.org or by calling (302) 378-6524. The deadline for
applications is February 27, 2004. The grant recipients will be notified by
March 11, 2004.
Past recipients of the grants include the ACLU of Delaware Lesbian and
Gay Civil Rights Project, AIDS Delaware, Renaissance Transgender
Association, CAMP Rehoboth and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. AIDS
Delaware has used its grants to fund Camp Camp It Up, a summer program for
gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth. The program
gives the youth an opportunity to come together for a fun summer camp
experience in a safe, supportive environment and learn valuable skills. The
participants did many of the typical camp crafts but also spent time doing
community service and learning leadership skills. Delaware Pride is
dedicated to creating a more visible and united LGBT community through
outreach, education, and referrals.

Be A Friend to Rehoboth Day Care
In 2003, the Rehoboth Day Care Center on Route One, held a fund raising
campaign and successfully raised enough money to do some much needed work on
their 100 year old building.
This year, the school has a different goal in mind. They hope to replace
the cots that the children nap on each day. The ones currently in use have
been there for over 33 years.
The center is used by 40-43 children a day, ages 1-10. Parents pay on a
sliding scale, but because of very limited income, some pay very little.
Grants, and support from local agencies help fund some of the needs of the
center, but they don’t cover everything.
Please consider sending a tax deductible donation to Rehoboth Day Care
Center, PO Box 663, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
