Protecting the One You Love: February 11-17 Is National Condom Week

When we think of February we think of getting a gift from our beloved for Valentine’s Day and an excuse to eat a pound of candy and not feel guilty about it! Well, that’s not the only thing we celebrate this month (besides my birthday!). February 11-17th is National Condom Week. Yes, you got that right—National Condom Week!

When I travel to different places, I like to check out erotica shops and other gay bars to see what materials they have promoting safer sex or see what style of condoms they are selling. I have seen everything from flavored condoms, techno advanced spiral, vibrating condoms, female condoms, large, XX large, snugger fit, and my personal favorite, glow in the dark condoms, for when you want a game of hide and seek in the dark! The varieties are endless—there are even some places you can get measured and have a special fit condom made just for you.

CAMP Rehoboth has an HIV education and prevention program called CAMPsafe which includes a condom distribution program. These condoms can be found at many of the bars and guesthouses in Rehoboth. I know there are peeps out there who don’t like condoms, but right now they are the only barriers to most sexually transmitted diseases. We try to provide a variety of styles, colors, flavors and sizes, so that the community will have the option to protect themselves and protect someone they love.

As you get ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day and you prepare for an evening of fireworks, remember your condoms. Protect your lover or your bf/gf for the evening and use a condom.

If you’re in need of some of our special condom and lube packets, stop by the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center and take as many as you want. Even if you don’t need them, stop by and get some for a friend. By using a condom, you can greatly reduce your chances of getting some nasty STD.
