In Brief

Mat Pilates Classes at Silver Lotus

Mat Pilates classes are being offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7 p.m. at the Silver Lotus Training Institute.

Pilates, a system of mind/body exercise, helps to promote improved posture, flexibility and coordination, and to create more balanced and efficient movement patterns. Regular Pilates exercise can be beneficial in increasing bone density, and can help correct physical imbalances which are often at the root of back or joint pain.

This class is suitable for beginners, focusing on the fundamentals of Pilates, emphasizing the deep postural muscles of the body, gentle stretching, and the integrative function of breath. Classes are taught by Konrad Noebel, certified mat Pilates instructor and licensed massage therapist.

Silver Lotus also offers classes in Yoga, Tai Chi and "Shake Your Soul." More info at silverlotusyoga.org or 302-226-0401.

It’s Chocolate Week in Rehoboth!

Whether planning to enter the baking contest or just heading to the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center for scrumptious tastings, don’t forget that March 11 is the 16th Annual Chocolate Festival in downtown Rehoboth Beach.

Stop by and taste the decadent, delicious cakes, pies and candy from superstar chefs at restaurants like Blue Moon, Cloud 9, Dogfish Head, 59 Lake, Go Fish, SOB’s Deli, Rams Head Beach House, Yesteryears All-American Café, Purple Parrot, and Victoria’s! More restaurants and bakeries, professional chefs and talented amateurs are going to enter this year than ever before.

It doesn’t take a professional baker to win a blue ribbon, as there are ribbons in lots of different categories for lots of different desserts. But restaurants galore enter the contest along with a huge contingent of amateurs and young bakers’ apprentices. In fact, some of the kids entries are as awesome as anything you’ll ever want to sample!

From devil’s food to mousse, chocolate chip cookies to mountains of candy, It’s a day for chocolate lovers as The Friends of the Rehoboth Beach Public Library and Rehoboth Beach Main Street sponsor the Annual Chocolate Festival on Saturday, March 11, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (or until the chocolate runs out!) at Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall.

Admission is only $1.00. Children under 5 get in free. For more information, call Rehoboth Beach Main Street, 302-227-2772.

HTP Trivia Night at the Frogg Pond

HTP’s Theater Trivia Night at Frogg Pond Tavern in Rehoboth kicks off at 6 p.m. Sunday March 12th.

Question: In what 1959 musical did a mute king teach his son about the birds and the bees?

Know the answer, then you should be taking part in Henlopen Theater Project’s latest Fun(d) Raiser at the Frogg Pond Tavern. Don’t know the answer, then you still have time to get your trivia team together and figure it out! Either way you’re guaranteed to have a fun evening with good food, free wine and beer, interesting company and maybe even a prize. If not then at least you will have supported HTP and learned some theater trivia that you probably thought you never needed to know! The trivia questions are being assembled by that well known theater diva, Ms Roo Brown, and her son Charlie Brown. This will be the third time they’ve gotten together to bamboozle their audience all in the interest of raising funds for HTP.

Cost of a ticket is $25 and includes a 3 course meal with free wine and beer. Entree selection will be from New York Sirloin, Chicken Picatta, Crab Cakes or Broiled Mahi Mahi. There will be a salad starter and a chocolate desert. Call the HTP ticket line at 302-226-4103 to book your team, or alternatively come as an individual and join another team on that night.
