Rainbow Chorale
Concerts, May 17 & 24
The Rainbow Chorale of
Delaware, a 75-voice mixed chorus, will perform its 2003 spring concert
entitled I Have Had Singing Saturday, May 17 at the First and Central
Presbyterian Church on Rodney Square in Wilmington and Saturday May 24 at
the Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach.
Both performances begin at 8:00 p.m. A reception immediately follows the
Wilmington performance on May 17.
Now in its fourth year, the
Chorale has become a vibrant musical institution and enjoys frequent
sell-out audiences. The title song of the concert this spring is taken from
a poem written by an English farmer and set to music by Steven Sametz. It
will be paired with two movements from the Peaceable Kingdom by Randall
Thompson: Have ye Not Heard? and Ye Shall Have a Song. Music by George
Gershwin, including arias and choruses from Porgy and Bess, will be featured
in addition to a gorgeous jazzy arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow,
C.H.H. Parry’s noble Oh Day of Peace, and You Can’t Stop the Beat from
the new musical Hairspray.
Tickets are $15 for adults,
$10 for seniors/students and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be
purchased at the door (however some performances sell out in advance), by
calling 1-888-512-5093 or directly from chorus members. For more information

Hoopla 3 Races into
Dewey Beach
Local charities are invited
to participate in the Hoopla 3 Charity Radio-Controlled Racing Tournament.
The entry fee is paid by
one or more sponsoring businesses or individuals who would like to have some
fun, generate some publicity for themselves and your charity, and have the
opportunity to win a cash donation for your charity.
To start, locate a
sponsor(s) for your organization who will pay the $100 entry fee and then
select a driver from either your organization or the sponsoring
organization. The driver will be racing 1/10 scale R/C stock cars on a 16x30
race track, and will get 3 practice races to get a feel for the car and the
track.
The tournament begins at 3
p.m. The top 3 drivers will be awarded a trophy and the 3 charities they
represent will receive a cash donation of up to $1000.
Space is limited, so if you

Be a Friend to
Rehoboth’s Kids
For 32 years, the Rehoboth
Day Care Center on Route 1 near the canal, has been enriching the lives of
low-income parents and their children.
The Rehoboth Day Care
Center was started in 1970 to meet the growing needs of low-income parents
and their children. Between 40-43 children, ages two to 12 (some are
latchkey children coming after school) attend the center. The students
receive breakfast, lunch and snacks. Parents pay on a sliding scale. Due to
limited income, some pay very little. All parents pay something for the
care, except those that are in training or school.
The Center is housed in a
100 year old historic building in which black children went to school in the
days of segregation. As with any old building it has to be well maintained,
and that maintenance is expensive. By applying for grants, and through the
generosity of local residents and business people, the day care center has
been able to take care of many maintenance needs; but there are always more.
This is one of the reasons the Center is going to the community for support
at this time.
Friends of the Rehoboth Day
Care Center can send tax deductible donations as a Benefactor, $500;
Sponsor, $100; Family, $50; or Individual, $25. Checks should be made
payable to Friends of the Rehoboth Day Care Center and mailed to Friends of
the Rehoboth Day Care Center, P.O. Box 11317, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. To
contact the Rehoboth Day Care Center, call 302-227-2651.
MCC-Rehoboth Shows Plans
for Future Home
On
Sunday, April 6, more than 40 members of Metropolitan Community
Church of Rehoboth were on hand for the unveiling of a sign on their
property on Plantation Road. The land was recently cleared of all structures
and it was time for the “Future Home” sign, hand painted by Edward
Duvall, to be erected as a Beacon to the community that the Church is on the
move.
