CAMP Connect

by Beth Fitton

Connect

Isn’t it great to connect with old friends? This past weekend, Mary and I met friends from out of state in Wilmington. They have been my friends for more than 30 years and Mary’s for nearly 10 years. We have been through the "best of times" and the "worst of times" together. They have always been there for me.

The occasion for our get-together was the production of RENT at the DuPont Theatre followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the Hotel DuPont. We enjoyed the play and dinner was excellent. To say that the hotel room exceeded expectations would be an understatement. As good as all that was, it couldn’t top the conversation and sheer silliness we experienced being together. We could relax and be ourselves. We were definitely in touch with our inner child. (The Green Room, however, may never be the same.)

I think another thing that added to our comfort level is that as we pulled up to the Hotel, we saw familiar faces. There, in front of the hotel, were two women from the Rehoboth Beach area. We have seen them often in past summers on the beach at Gordon’s Pond.

As we reach the end of our sixth year of living in Rehoboth Beach, we truly appreciate running into people that we have come to know since we moved here. It has felt like home here for a long time now but, as we add new friends to the old, I feel a greater depth to my life. Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary defines "friend" as "one attached to another by affection or esteem." I think of friendship as a connection to other people you care about who are willing to share your joy and your pain.

Founders’ Circle

The deadline for joining the Founders’ Circle Capital Campaign has been extended until Labor Day Weekend. Please consider showing your support for our community in this most meaningful way. More than 770 of your friends and neighbors have pledged $1,062,540.60 with $803,409.30 of those pledge dollars being fulfilled to date.

If you are having difficulty finding a gift for your friends or family, a donation to the Founders’ Circle makes a very fitting gift for birthdays and anniversaries. You will be making an

investment in our community, plus it’s a great tax deduction. CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

CAMP Rehoboth’s board and staff share my appreciation of the commitment you made by becoming recent members of the Founders’ Circle, upgrading your original pledge, or making your pledge payment. Friendships are wonderful gifts in our lives; treasure them.
