May 22 Book Signing for Fay Jacobs
A&M Books of Rehoboth Beach announces the publication of As I Lay Frying—a Rehoboth Beach Memoir by Letters columnist Fay Jacobs. The book is a collection of Jacobs’ CAMPout columns published over the last several years.

CAMP Rehoboth will host a book party and signing on Saturday, May 22 from 4-6 p.m. at the CAMP office and courtyard at 39 Baltimore Ave.

As Letters readers have learned, and the publisher’s book jacket announces, "The columns of Fay Jacobs cast a witty eye toward contemporary culture and life in a gay-friendly resort town. The essays tell a story that is sometimes provocative, sometimes political, occasionally heartwarming and always hilarious."

The column began in 1995, when Jacobs and her partner Bonnie Quesenberry cruised into town on their small powerboat and discovered the unique charm of this seaside community. Almost immediately, Jacobs began chronicling her life as a Rehoboth weekender. Rehoboth fans have followed along as Fay and Bonnie made the transition from visitors to regulars to locals themselves.

The columns describe, among other things, how the columnist was nearly run over by a cargo ship, hunted down by the AARP, and inadvertently involved in transporting shrieking felines across state lines. Jacobs’ writing has her coming to terms with scrapple, summer renters, family values, HMOs and more.

A native New Yorker, Jacobs spent 30 years in the Washington, DC area working in journalism and public relations. She has contributed feature stories and columns to such publications as The Baltimore Sun, Chesapeake Bay Magazine, the Washington Blade, the Wilmington News Journal, Delaware Beach Life and more. In 1997 she won the Vice Versa Award for excellence. Her writing is also included in the 1998 Alyson Publications’ anthology Beginnings.

As I Lay Frying—a Rehoboth Beach Memoir will be available beginning May 22 at CAMP Rehoboth, and regional bookstores or at the web site www.fayjacobs.com. In addition you can get a copy by sending a $15 check or money order plus $1.95 shipping/handling to A&M Books, P.O. Box 283, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.  For more information about the book signing on May 22, 4-6 p.m. call CAMP Rehoboth at 302-227-5620.
