ChiliBillys becomes @ the beach
ChiliBillys, 330 Rehoboth Avenue at the corner of State Street, has
reopened as @ the beach. Happy hours start at 3:30 p.m. daily in the front
lounge along Rehoboth Avenue. Familiar American cuisine will be served in
a warm, casual setting among Carmen Mirandaesk pilasters adorned with
Tutti Frutti hats. Dueling Piano players will sing show tunes and familiar
favorites nightly in the front lounge from 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Plans are for
the other side of the restaurant, conveniently dubbed “The Other
Side,” to host nightly shows and DJs after 10 p.m. @ the beach is
conveniently located next to the gay owned Harlow’s, and half-way
between the other gay haunts of Cloud 9, Purple Parrot and Double L.
It’s time to Dish!
Hip, Upbeat, Cosmopolitan, Fun have been used to describe “Dish!” the
latest addition to the Rehoboth restaurant scene. Twisting the classics
around is the Dish! way say co-owners and chefs cutie-pie blonde Riche
Griffin and cuisine queen Cyrus Keefer. Unexpected combinations of foods
such as French and Asian fused together, spiced, jerked, simmered or
aromatic, is what you can expect at Dish! Diners will find simple and
clean decor highlighted by Mary Gaffeney designed mosaic mirrors. Dish! is
open on the weekends now, 7 days a week at 5 p.m. after Memorial Day. 26
Baltimore Avenue (formerly Dream Café), 302-226-2112.
Rehoboth gets Tasteful
Yet another addition to Rehoboth’s Restaurant Roulette is Taste, 122
Rehoboth Avenue in Eden Cafés old location (Eden is now at 23 Baltimore
Avenue). Eden’s Chef-owner Rob Stitt developed the concept for Taste
where diners are encouraged to share menu items. The cuisine is innovative
and high quality, yet moderately priced with entrees averaging about $15.
Some highlights are ratatouille, bruschetta, spicy crawfish and lobster
spring rolls, Baja fish tacos and homemade buffalo meatloaf. In the great
Rehoboth tradition the dining room also serves as a commercial art gallery
with local artist Matt Adler’s photos and paintings currently on display
and for sale. Taste is open nightly from 6 p.m. Thursday through Tuesday
in May, lunch and dinner everyday in summer. 302-226-4250.

New Rehoboth Gay Dance Club Opening May
23
The Renegade is a massive pile of rubble, but rising like a phoenix from
the ashes next door is Rehoboth’s next Gay After Hours Dance Club.
20,000+ square feet is being carved out of the 47,000 sf Ames space to
become A.M. Opening next Friday, May 23 for late night dancing, plans are
to keep it open at least on weekends through September. The large parking
lot, 1,400 sf dance floor, and three bars totaling more than 60 feet,
manned by shirtless bartenders, should be plenty to handle even holiday
crowds.
The gay heroes making this happen are Rob
Dick and Eric Teves of Blue Moon, Steve Fallon of Shore Haus and Dan
Contarino of Dennio Productions. Dan will be handling sound, lights, DJs,
entertainment, promotions, etc. as he has done superbly at Philly’s
Shampoo and many other mid-Atlantic nightclubs including Renegade the last
few summers. Cliff Lassahn will be our hostess, Ms. Laya Way.
The name of the club, A.M., can stand for
whatever you want: After Midnight, Animal Magnetism, Auntie Mames... one
things for certain you’ll be saying I AM WHAT I AM AT A.M.
Showtime Controversial Film, Soldier’s
Girl
On Saturday, May 31 at 9 p.m., SHOWTIME premieres Soldier’s Girl, a film
based on the true story
of a young soldier who fell in love with a transgendered nightclub
performer. Directed by award-winning director Frank Pierson, the film had
its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Soldier’s
Girl stars Troy Garity (Bandits), newcomer Lee Pace, and Shawn Hatosy
(Outside Providence) and features Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the
Street).
Soldier’s Girl recounts the story of
Barry Winchell (Garity), a 21-year-old Private First Class who fell in
love with Calpernia Addams (Pace), a beautiful transgendered nightclub
performer. The movie details their relationship against the growing
animosity of Winchell’s roommate, Justin Fisher (Hatosy). Fisher ignited
anti-gay sentiments in the barracks, which ultimately led to Winchell’s
death in 1999 by a drunken fellow soldier.
The film is produced by Linda Gottlieb
(Dirty Dancing, Citizen Cohn) and Doro Bachrach (Citizen Cohn, Truman).
Soldier’s Girl was written by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia, Mrs. Soffel)
who also serves as the film’s co-producer.
