If you’ve been following the local news
lately, you’ve heard the buzz about animal overpopulation.
• Over 18,000 cats and
dogs are euthanized in the Delaware shelters each year;
• Close to 90% of
animals in shelters are euthanized to make room for others;
• A dog and her
offspring can produce 76,000 dogs in 6 years;
• A cat and her
offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years.
We need land, materials,
time and money to shelter the many animals in need. Consider adopting, or
becoming a foster parent until a permanent home is found. We need low-cost
spay and neutering programs. Lastly, we need an education center where
people can come to learn about animal abuse and neglect as well as pet
care.
Any help you can give is
appreciated. Your tax deductible contributions can be made to: Animal
Rescue League, PO Box 149,
Lewes, DE 19958, or call 302-228-4783 for more information.

Here it is Memorial Day
and the summer season has begun. Main Street is now accepting donations
for the annual Fireworks display to be held Sunday, July 6, over the water
at the boardwalk and Rehoboth Avenue. We generally have 80,000 people
watching the display from the boardwalk and shoreline from Cape Henlopen
to Dewey Beach.
As you may be aware, this
event is funded entirely by generous residents and businesses in the area.
While donations have been coming in at a steady pace, we are still a long
way from our goal of over $40,000 needed to fund the annual event.
We’re asking readers to
help us by donating whatever they can to make sure this annual tradition
can continue to light up the sky over Rehoboth Beach. This year, more than
ever, we want to present a spectacular display to celebrate Independence
Day, patriotism and the beginning of a wonderful summer in Rehoboth Beach.
Please forward donations
to: Main Street Fireworks, P.O. Box 50, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
Since Main Street is a
non-profit organization, donations are fully tax deductible to the full
extent of the law.
Please help make 2003 an
awesome year for fireworks!
