Dr. Robert J. Marko, DDS
Dr. Robert J. (Bob) Marko, DDS, died
peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in San Francisco,
after a long battle with AIDS. When Bob made his transition, he was
surrounded by his life partner and best friend, John L. Westaway III, and
his beloved friends Bill Langley, Renae Breitenstein, David Groves and Ann
Telthorst, as well as the Rev. Dr. G. Penny Nixon and the Rev. Joe
McMurray. Bob leaves behind an amazingly large and caring family of
friends who loved him and supported him in his last battle with AIDS.
Bob was a dentist in Binghamton, NY, and
the Washington, DC area. He retired to his beach house in Rehoboth Beach,
Delaware where he was actively involved with SCAC (Sussex County AIDS
Committee), serving on the Board of Directors as Vice President. He was
also a volunteer for CAMP Rehoboth.
Bob moved to San Francisco 6 years ago and
once there, pursued his avocation of Life Coach. He was a dedicated
volunteer supervisor at the California AIDS Hotline of the San Francisco
AIDS Foundation, and an active member of the Metropolitan Community Church
of San Francisco where he tirelessly worked on the annual Circles of Hope
Fundraising Event.
Bob was laid to rest at St. Michael’s
Cemetery in Binghamton on May 6, 2003. A celebration of Bob’s life will
be held in San Francisco at a later date. He lives on in all the lives
that he so wonderfully touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that
you make a lasting tribute to the life of Robert J. Marko with your
contribution in his name to the Metropolitan Community Church of San
Francisco Building Fund, 150 Eureka St., San Francisco, CA 94114, or to
the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, 995 Market St., San Francisco, CA
94103.
