Milton Delaware is on the map and the Milton gay community continues to lead the way. We’re inviting you to come see what’s happening.

Amid the busy Memorial Day weekend, two unique events are happening in Milton. On Friday May 25, in Milton Memorial Park on the Broadkill River, the Milton Community Foundation is helping to raise funds for the John Milton statue, Milton’s first piece of public art. From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Washington, DC appraiser Richard Driscoll has agreed to donate his professional time to appraise three items per person at $5 per item.

At 6 p.m. a silent auction will begin, and at 6:30 Butch Emmert of Emmert Auctioneers will start the live auction. If you have items you want to have considered for the live auction, call 302-227-1433. Any portion of your profits may be donated to the Milton Community Foundation for a tax deduction.

Then on Saturday May 26 at 10 a.m. join us for the 4th Annual Horseshoe Crab and Shorebird Festival—an all day event.

This year there’s something for everyone. Enjoy a full day of programs at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, or wander through beautiful downtown historic Milton. There will be unique vendors, great food, boat rides on the Broadkill, art shows, live music, and the first 2007 outdoor concert featuring Lisa Scott and the Melting Pot, co-sponsored by Milton Curves owners Ellen Passman and Barbara Lilien, and Salon Milton owner John Potocki.

It’s an event for all ages, races and orientations. Join the fun! As Auntie Mame said, "We can open up doors you never dreamed existed."—I’ve waited 48 years to use that line!

Love Remixed: One Night Only

In recent years, the Love Weekend has been focused on two dance events—the Main Event and the Retro Ball. This year the two events have been combined to create one big dance party called Love Remixed: One Night Only on Saturday, June 30.

"With the holiday falling on a Wednesday this year," says CAMP Rehoboth director Steve Elkins, "we weren’t sure when the crowds would be here, and we wanted to recapture that great feeling when the whole community comes together to celebrate Love."

Centaur star DJ David Knapp is especially excited about Love Remixed, and is looking forward to "…reaching a group that includes more diverse musical tastes than ever. I will not be happy," he says, "until I’ve played some great music for everyone who attends."

Though the number of major dance events for Love Weekend has been reduced this year, other activities will still make it a weekend to remember. The Love Welcome Party for all Host and Sponsor levels with take place on Friday evening, June 29, in the CAMP Rehoboth Courtyard. And on Sunday, July 1, Bruce Miller and Dean LaVigne will host the Love Sponsor Party in their ocean front home at Prospect Street and the Boardwalk.

This year will also feature a private Love Sponsor Lounge at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center as a part of the main dance event. Access to the lounge will come with the purchase of a Two Heart level and above host or sponsor ticket.

Tickets for Love Remixed: One Night Only are $50. Host level tickets are: One Heart, $100; Two Heart (includes Love Lounge, $150. Sponsor level tickets are $300 and up, and include the Love Sponsor Party.

Rehoboth Fireworks Are Set for the 4th

Rehoboth Beach Main Street will present Fireworks 2007 on the actual holiday this year, Wednesday, July 4th.

Once again, plans call for a section of beach along the boardwalk to serve as the shoot site, with the display easily seen all up and down the beach.

An exciting addition this year will be a radio simulcast of music coordinated specifically for the Rehoboth show. WGMD 92.7 FM will broadcast the music and fireworks fans can bring their radios along to listen.

As in previous years, the fireworks are set to go off at approximately 9:15 p.m. (Rain date is July 5.)

There will be entertainment at the Bandstand Pavilion before and after.

The fireworks are funded by donations. Main Street would like to invite people to make a tax-deductible donation. Donations may be sent to RBMS Fireworks, P.O. Box 50, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.

It’s Black and White Beach Ball Time

The CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Founders’ Circle Black and White Beach Ball is Sat., June 2 from 5-8 p.m. at the Atlantic Sands Hotel, Baltimore Ave. and the Boardwalk.

Superkind’s Bus Gets New Lease on Life

Tim Duffy recently bid farewell to a Rehoboth landmark, the Superkind "flower power" VW bus that has been seen on the streets of Rehoboth for 15 years. The bus was raffled at their 157 Rehoboth Avenue store last season with the proceeds going to CAMP Rehoboth. When the ticket was pulled the lucky winner turned out to be Nick Costango who plans to restore the bus to its glory days.
