He’s Making a List and Checking It Twice...
Decisions, decisions! Just the other day Nick and I ran into two
gentlemen at the new Lambda Rising Store. One said he enjoyed my articles
and liked my down-to-earth way of relaying information to my readers. I
thanked him and his partner very much. They also liked it when I do a list
of things to go by, follow, eat, sleep, exercise and what-not. So, in
keeping with my habit of making lists, I’ve decided to keep this one
health oriented.
Betcha don’t know the top ten sexiest foods. Oysters? Nah. Lobster?
Nope. Chocolate? Nada. Well, if things are slowing you down in the
bedroom, then Gillian McKeith, PhD, has a solution for you. She has just
had her new book published: You Are What You Eat (how true). These are her
picks for the top ten sexiest foods, and the reason(s) why.
1. Sauerkraut—OK, OK, calm down. Her reasoning is that it contains
enzymes that fire up sex drive and are good for the liver, which maintains
hormonal balance. I plan on giving Nick a case of this all wrapped up with
a bow on it. Hey baby, how ‘bout a little sauerkraut tonight?
2. Strawberries—Yummy-love ‘em. The antioxidants in strawberries
increase libido. So succulent....
3. Sprouts—Say what? Why? ‘Cause sprouted veggies are high in
digestive enzymes that take the pressure off your body’s enzyme
production and leave you with more energy.
4. Blueberries—Hey, no problem there. These are great to eat. They
are high in B vitamins and good for the kidneys. They contribute to a
healthy libido because the kidneys are the base organs for sexual prowess—hey,
these are her words, not mine.
5. Pumpkin seeds—hmmmm...dunno...a small packet daily is all you
need; pumpkin seeds are rich in EFAs for sex hormone production, and zinc
for healthy sperm—are ya listening, fellas??
6. Avocados—a traditional Aztec cure for erectile dysfunction,
avocados are rich in healthy fats.
7. Cinnamon—I do like the smell of it...the doctor says it stimulates
the brain and has an evocative aroma.
8. Ginger—I hear this one has sexual healing powers. Ginger is a
traditional Indian remedy, and it improves circulation.
9. Parsley—Next time, don’t throw away that garnish of parsley on
your plate. Eat it, ‘cause it has B12 for sexual energy, and it improves
adrenal function for dealing with stress.
10. Brown Rice—This is a head-scratcher, but her reasons are that it
has B vitamins that improve kidney function, digestion, hormonal balance
and sex drive.
You all may have your own personal favorite, and I do, too.
It’s summertime and we are all trying to be skin sensitive and skin
friendly. I’ve found this summer’s top 10 super-antioxidant foods. The
next time you shop at your local supermarket, keep this list in mind and
be aware that these fruits and vegetables are packed with skin friendly
antioxidants. The list includes: blueberries, broccoli, cantaloupe,
carrots, papaya, peaches, red peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, and
watermelon.
Remember—the more antioxidants in your diet, the healthier and
happier you will be.
Do you dislike hot weather or cold weather? New information has just
been published that could help us cope with the extremes. Is this you? You
are too hot if you dislike hot weather, like lots of cold drinks, sweat
easily, have trouble sleeping, tend to have a loud voice, are prone to
having skin outbreaks and get mighty irritable. Well it’s recommended
that in order to cope better, you try the following: eat less dense
protein sources, such as white fish, crabs, clams, etc., consume lighter
foods such as salads, eat soy foods, dairy products, and beans. These will
help put your body back in balance. It is also suggested that "hot
people" eat cooling foods such as cucumbers, peppermint, broccoli,
bok choy, kale, celery, green tea, yogurt, and watermelon.
If you’re not a hothead, then you may be a cold person. You are too
cold if you dislike cold weather, like to sip warm drinks, don’t sweat
easily, sleep curled up, tend to have a soft voice, have pale skin, and
are quiet and reserved.
For balance, this is what they recommend for you: eat denser meats such
as lamb, turkey, chicken, pork and beef; and heavier foods such as bread,
rice and other grains. Cold people really need to chomp down on these good
heat foods: nuts are nice, chilies are hot, ginger is a zinger, garlic and
onions produce heat. Peppers, mustard greens, coffee, and cinnamon round
out the Top 9.
The last of the lists. Since it is the start of the summer season, here
is a reminder about the sun. There are many people out there that use
sunscreen supplements—they insist that by ingesting these essential
nutrients, they will have you covered for the summer. The Top 5 sunscreen
supplements are:
1. Carotenoids - 10 to 25 IUs ingested
2. Vitamin E - 400 to 800 IUs (that’s pretty high)
3. Vitamin C - 500 mg.
4. Pycongenol - 50 to 100 mg
5. Green Tea / EGCG - 200 to 400 mg
Now, granted this stuff may help you for a short time in the sun, but
nothing could be safer than an SPF of 30. You know you can still tan with
an SPF 30, so don’t be shy—slather it on when at the beach this year.
Friends of mine, John and Steve, insisted that I warn people of the
dangers of too much sun exposure. Well, you have been warned.
See you at the beach and bring that sunscreen with you!
