So, why do we need CAMP Health Days? Good question. In the fall of 2003, CAMP Rehoboth began the wellness program. When we talk about wellness, we’re talking about more than the absence of disease, and about more than your physical body. Wellness includes your mental, spiritual, sexual, intellectual, social, and emotional well-being. Being healthy is about having the skills and resources to meet your needs and goals, and to change or cope with what life brings.

One of our first events this summer will be in collaboration with Beebe Medical Center. On June 4th from 11-2 p.m. we will be offering several health screenings at our office at 37 Baltimore Avenue. We will offer a variety of screenings, such as: blood pressure, and metabolic scale/body fat. We will provide free health screenings, food and goodies for the community. CAMP Parents and Children Outing
CAMP Rehoboth is planning a series of get-togethers for parents and their young children. We have discussed a cookout at Gordon’s Pond, an event at Sea Witch Festival and group attendance at the Community Unity Dinner in December.

We are establishing the group in response to inquiries from parents who have contacted CAMP Rehoboth hoping to interact with other like families. Please let us know what you think. Based on your responses, we will make plans and keep you informed.

Lisa Ennis Photos at Packard Reath
Lisa Tyson Ennis of West Chester Pennsylvania has been part of several group shows at the Packard Reath Gallery in Lewes. This is her first solo exhibition. The show’s title Time Passing refers to the process Lisa uses to create her artwork. Several images in this show are of Lewes including the new and powerful image Incoming Wave.

Lisa photographs what the eye cannot see. Over time, with extended exposures, film is able to collect the changing light. As light passes across the landscape, the film gathers a composite of light as it travels with time. It is this resulting quality of light that suggests time passing and the ephemeral quality of timelessness. Lisa seeks subjects that are visually quiet, allowing the quality of the light itself to become a large part of the subject and the essence of the piece.

Lisa works solely within the framework of historical processes—large and medium format cameras, black and white film, handmade toners and oil paints. In the field, she works in extremely low light situations, searching for that ethereal but fleeting union of light and landscape which appears simultaneously both representational and symbolic. In the darkroom she hand prints each piece, painting with light to enhance and intensify the image collected on the film. Her goal is to honor and illuminate the past and stimulate the senses, evoking in the viewer an emotional response.

A recent photograph of Lisa’s has been chosen for the cover of Beth Gutcheson’s new novel Leeway Cottage.

In a review in the Philadelphia Inquirer, art critic Edward J. Sozanski wrote: "Lisa Tyson Ennis uses light this way, to transform ordinary scenes in a way that creates atmosphere and mood, her ultimate subjects. In doing so, she works much like the symbolic artists of a century ago, whose target was less the eye than the imagination."

This show will remain on view through July 5th.

Plein Air Exhibit at Peninsula Gallery
Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride, both from Berlin, Maryland, will exhibit their paintings at the Peninsula Gallery through June 29. Both specialize in "Plein Air" work, where small paintings are completed on site and used as studies for larger studio pieces, rather than painting direct from photographs. Both paint in oil and for this show have traveled the Eastern Shore recording the things they love, many of which are now beginning to disappear in the name of progress.

Lockhart paints in a range of styles from surreal and illustrative to semi-impressionistic. She uses techniques from pointillism to scumbling (scrubbing on paint so that the underpainting shows through). Often what is left out of a painting is as important to her as what she puts in.

McBride has had 25 years of experience painting images and people of the Eastern Shore. His work is influenced by Edward Hopper and the California landscape painters of the 1900s.

HEART Preview at CAMP
Before the crowd descended was the perfect time to view the 17 pieces of art donated by various artists to benefit the CAMP Rehoboth Capital Campaign.
