Connect
I know it is not the official first day of summer yet but you could
be fooled if you looked around in Rehoboth Beach. All we at CAMP
Rehoboth have to do is glance out of the window to see how busy the CAMP
Courtyard has become. From our senior citizens with their walkers to the
babies in their strollers, season after season, the Courtyard remains
the place to meet old friends and make new acquaintances.
Speaking of meeting and greeting, the CAMP Rehoboth Founders’
Circle Black and White Beach Ball was a great success again this year.
The folks attending really appreciate the opportunity to connect with
each other at the beginning of the season. The architect provided
sketches of the planned addition to CAMP Rehoboth along with color
boards of the interior furnishings. The response to the proposed
addition was very enthusiastic! Add to that, the Atlantic Sands did a
particularly fine job with the food and drink. There was an entire room
full of desserts plus a chocolate fountain. No wonder there were rave
reviews! The art for the HeART of the Community auction offered a
wonderful variety of styles and interpretations of the theme, 6 Degrees
of Separation and the community offered generous bids in response. At
the close of the auction, the art had raised nearly $30,000 to be used
to support the capital campaign for the addition to CAMP Rehoboth. It
was quite a night!
One of our summer traditions has become meeting friends on the beach
midweek for a simple take-out dinner. For those of us working full-time
during the week, an evening connecting with friends can seem like an
extra weekend. A few laughs and some good conversation have me leaving
the beach relaxed and rejuvenated. I highly recommend it.
I also recommend that you get your tickets early for some of CAMP
Rehoboth’s upcoming events. This year Love 2007 is being held on June
30th and is a one night event. This is certain to increase demand for
this popular happening. Splash 2007 is July 14 followed the next week by
the CAMP Rehoboth Follies. Each of these has a loyal following and a
growing list of "newbies" who are anxious to join their
friends and neighbors at the events.
As a service to the community, CAMP Rehoboth offers tickets for sale
not only for our own events but for many other non-profits in the
community. As a result, the community has come to depend on us for their
entertainment needs. I joke that if any of us leave employment at CAMP
Rehoboth, we know we can get a job doing training for the staff of
Ticket Master.
Founders’ Circle
The architect’s presentation at the Black and White Beach Ball,
complete with the sketch of the donors’ rainbow recognition wall
prompted additional upgrades to the Founders’ Circle. We truly
appreciate the increased funds and the continued commitment to the
Community Center. The upgraded memberships and recent payments have
resulted in the Founders’ Circle totals reaching $1,350,503.60 pledged
and $1,064,602.37 contributed. CAMP Rehoboth’s staff, our board of
directors and the building committee join me in offering our gratitude
for your generosity.
