2003 Ocean to Harbor Bike Ride
Moveable Feast will host Ride for the Feast,
an Ocean to Harbor, bike ride, Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, 2003,
from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware to Baltimore, Maryland. Participants in the
approximately 150 mile journey will help to meet (and hopefully surpass) the
$250,000 goal to help feed homebound Maryland residents living with
HIV/AIDS.
“Our objective is to attract 200+ riders,
each raising $1,200 in pledges,” commented David Andrews, Ride for the
Feast chair. “We hope to have corporate and underwriting support to ensure
that 100% of the pledge dollars goes to support the programs and projects of
Moveable Feast, namely feeding our clients throughout Maryland. Participants
will be assigned a coach (a volunteer with Moveable Feast) to assist in
meeting training and fundraising goals.”
Departing from the Bandstand (oceanfront and
Rehoboth Avenue) in Rehoboth Beach, Ride for the Feast will traverse a
100-mile flat course through farmland and small towns in Delaware and
Maryland, with an overnight stay in Stevensville on the East Side of the Bay
Bridge. Day two’s 50-mile component concludes at Ravens’ Stadium for
lunch followed by a short ride to Baltimore’s War Memorial Plaza for a
closing ceremony.
Ride for the Feast will feature a fully
supported itinerary with pit stops every 15 to 20 miles where food, restroom
facilities, water, ice, medical care, and bike maintenance services will be
available.
Moveable Feast provides daily delivered meals
(three meals a day) and nutritional services important to the entire
spectrum of homebound HIV-infected individuals (and their families) living
in Maryland. In addition, the Moveable Feast program packs and distributes
meals for a week to over 600 Groceries to Go clients.

Larger than Life Show at Peninsula Gallery
In Living Color is the title of the new show
at the Peninsula Gallery in Lewes starting August 1, 2002. The artist, David
Daniels, from Silver Spring, has had a lifelong affair with the medium of
watercolor. Originally trained in botany and biology, the scientific and the
artistic are united in his works. “My paintings celebrate a passion for
color, a reverence for nature, and a love for the medium of watercolor. In
my work, common plants and animals take on a new spirit and are animated by
the larger-than-life format that I often use.”
Gallery owners, Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron,
are excited at the thought of the show, not only because of the nature of
the work but because for the first time clients will be able to experience
the application of watercolor on canvas. “In his pursuit of being able to
display his paintings without the reflective surface of glass and (for him)
distracting mats and frames, David found a product called White Absorbent
Ground which, when applied to a gessoed canvas takes on a paper-like quality
and accepts watercolor. To protect the finished canvas he then applies a
layer of mineral spirit-solution acrylic varnish. The results are inspiring.
The large scale invites the viewer to embark on a color journey through
nature that often is larger than life and would make a major statement in
any cathedral ceilinged home.
Daniels earned his Masters at Central
Michigan University and after 15 years of teaching he moved to Washington,
DC to pursue his art career. He has earned “Best of Show” in the Capital
Hill Art League, the Cultural Society of Coral Springs, Florida and the
Washington Watercolor Association. He has been published several times and
his work can be found in numerous public and private collections. A
reception to meet the artist will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, August
3. The gallery is located just across the canal on Savannah Rd in Lewes and
is open 7 days a week. For more information visit www.delawarebeachresorts.com

Hit Comedy Comes to Rehoboth Beach
The Henlopen Theater Project will present the
hit comedy Fully Committed by Becky Mode July 26-28 and July 31-August 3.
The play, which has been produced around the country to great acclaim, deals
with a day in the life of a reservations clerk at a very ritzy restaurant
and everyone trying to get a reservation. The twist of the evening is that
all the characters, and there are over 40 of them, are played by one actor.
The very versatile actor is James Beaman, who
appeared at HTP last year as Marlene Dietrich in his acclaimed cabaret Black
Market Marlene. James Beaman most recently won the 2002 MAC award for his
original show Crazy World: The Songs of Leslie Bricusse. He has appeared
Off-Broadway in the hit revues Whoop-Dee-Doo!, and When Pigs Fly. As well as
the lead in Charles Busch’s Vampire Lesbians of Sodom. His regional
credits include The Mystery of Irma Vep, Sylvia, The Comedy of Errors and
most recently Arsenic and Old Lace.
Dennis Delaney who has directed more than
eighty-five productions throughout the United States directs Fully
Committed. Some of his credits include Midsummer Night’s Dream
(Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival), A View From the Bridge (Theaterfest)
The Heiress and Noises Off and Side Man. His production of The Man Who Could
See Through Time at Seven Angels Theater was cited by the Connecticut
Critics Circle as one of the best productions of last season.
An added special attraction to this HTP
production will be its Red Carpet Receptions featured at each performance,
which will feature food from some of Lewes and Rehoboth’s best
restaurants. Some of the participating restaurants are The Buttery, Blue
Moon, Stoney Lonen, Celsius, Eden Café, La La Land, Yum Yum, Third Edition,
Planet X, Café Solé and Beautiful Foods.
“We are incredibly pleased and grateful
with the fabulous support of the community for this endeavor,” says HTP
Artistic director James FitzSimmons, “and it’s a great treat for the
audience.”

Reception call 302-226-4103.
