Don’t you just love summer in Rehoboth Beach?! (Now, don’t get
cranky! I’m not talking about this long stretch of heat and humidity.
I see those as an excuse to go to the beach or a pool.) Summer is quite
the sensory explosion. People plan whole events around a summer taste
treat; crab feasts, corn roasts, barbequed "fill in the
blank." We watch dolphins frolic in the ocean, children play on the
beach, and the fireworks explode off the coast. We love the smells
associated with summer—suntan lotion, Thrashers’ fries, and caramel
corn. The sounds are different, too. There are so many more voices; the
carnival rides produce squeals and screams and the music from the
bandstand entertains us all. Finally, you can take pleasure in the
various things you feel—sand under your feet, sun on your skin, and
the splash from the waves.
Besides the great sensory experiences of summer, I think people seem
to be in a better mood at this time of year— lighter and more playful.
Almost anything can be an excuse for a party or get-together.
Maybe the best thing about summer is the friends and family that you
get to see. Reconnecting with them here in our community can be almost
like revisiting childhood. You just have to remind yourself that
connecting with each other is what is important. Keep the food and
entertainment simple and enjoy each other!
Founders’ Circle
Funland has little on us here at 37 Baltimore Avenue. The CAMP
Rehoboth staff promised me a "wild ride" once summer kicked in
and they did not exaggerate. Any one day may include the swirl of event
planning, mailings, ticket sales, producing Letters, and a condom
stuffing party. If you haven’t seen your new Community Center, please
stop in for a quick tour. It really is the "Heart of the
Community!"
Remember the words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it
is the only thing that ever has." In our case, the contributions of
419 people have brought us this far. I believe you will agree it is
quite amazing. Those members of the Founders’ Circle have pledged
$947,067.72 with $645,844.18 being received.
We still have a ways to go to reach our goal. It’s not too late for
you to add your name to our "small group of thoughtful, committed
citizens." You will be making an investment in our community, plus
it’s a great tax deduction. CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization
and contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
To all of you who have become recent members of the Founders’
Circle, upgraded your original pledge, or made your pledge payment, CAMP
Rehoboth’s board and staff appreciate your commitment. Thank you for
the personal sacrifice you have made to benefit the whole community.
