CAMP Rehoboth Women's Project 

What a great summer this has been! We hope you all share that feeling. After a wet and chilly start to the season, we are now in the midst of August, sultry as only August can be. There is one thing for sure, each summer is different, a new experience, and hopefully a ton of fun.

Speaking of fun! The CAMP Rehoboth Women’s Project hosted the Mautner Project at our first joint event last Saturday evening. The weather was perfect for the event. Approximately 200 women and men filled the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center and courtyard to enjoy a wonderful time of camaraderie, great food and plenty of libations. To show her support, Sharon Messina of Dune Tunes generously donated her time and equipment to set the mood with great music that kept us all moving. Thank you, DJ Shark!

The work of the Mautner Project is so important and we feel very fortunate that the Women’s Project had the opportunity to welcome them to our community and home. Meghan Duffy, Development Director for the Mautner Project, provided information and "fun stuff" to take home. Kathleen DeBold, Executive Director, spoke to the group about the importance of having a strong community and the necessity of giving back, especially during times of need.

She concluded by presenting a Mautner Project award to CAMP Rehoboth’s Executive Director, Steve Elkins, for our organization’s contributions to lesbian health. We truly believe that the event is the beginning of a partnership that will benefit both organizations and especially the women in our community. We extend our special thanks to Kathleen and Meghan for working with us to make this happen. Watch for more collaborative efforts in the future! And it’s coming to a theater near you!

Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon have been partners in love and political struggle for fifty years. With incisive interviews, rare archival images and warmhearted humor, this documentary reveals their inspiring public work, as well as their charming relationship. It is a delightful way to meet these legendary lesbians, known as the founders of the modern lesbian civil rights movement. When they courageously launched the Daughters of Bilitis in 1955, it became the first public organization for lesbians in America. This documentary follows their story through half a century, tracing the emergence of lesbians from the fear of discovery to an expectation of equality. Today these unapologetic and unstoppable activists are educating both the LGBT and aging movements on the needs of elderly lesbians.
