It was a week that I don’t want to repeat! Both my partner, Mary,
and I were in the hospital at separate times during that time span.
Actually, in the interest of accuracy, it was two hospitals, Christiana
and Beebe. Plus, in my case, it was twice— one trip to the emergency
room and admission two days later. (We capped off the week by returning
to Beebe, as visitors, to offer support to Mary’s colleague as her
mother was removed from life support.)
Those of you, who know me, know that I am very much a "silver
lining" person. Mary and I are both recovering with a good
prognosis plus we gained insights and learned some valuable lessons.
First, we relearned the value of family. For folks, like Mary’s
colleague, who are Delmarva natives and surrounded by siblings, cousins,
aunts and uncles, support is pretty much a given. If one relative is not
available, someone else will come through to provide the needed
transportation, food or shoulder to lean on. When your birth family isn’t
close by, you really learn the value of your "family of
choice," those friends that you can count on when you really need
help.
The second thing that was confirmed for us was the great network of
friends we have made here in Rehoboth Beach. Thank you to all of you who
called with offers of help, stopped by with food, and provided
transportation while we were incapacitated. I sure am glad to count you
among my "family".
Founders’ Circle
This is the countdown! You have three weeks left to join the Founders’
Circle Capital Campaign and add your name to the list of people making
history in Rehoboth Beach. To date, $1,140,923.60 has been pledged with
$874,714.30 of those pledges being fulfilled. The CAMP Rehoboth board of
directors joins me in offering thanks to all who have become recent
members of the Founders’ Circle, upgraded their original pledge, or
made a pledge payment.
More than 800 of your friends have become members. Please consider
joining them. Think about giving an honorary membership in the Founders’
Circle to a family member or friend. Host a summer party and ask for a
donation to be made to CAMP Rehoboth in lieu of a host/hostess gift. You
will be making an investment in our community, plus it’s a great tax
deduction. CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions
are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
Remember, it is also three weeks until Sundance 2006. If you have
items to donate for the auction, please give us a call. Also, you need
to know that in previous years we have sold out of auction tickets well
in advance of the event. Be sure to order yours soon so that you are not
disappointed.
