Summer's End and Fall Beginnings
Movies, parties, barbecues and days at the beach—the summer of ’03
is coming to a close. Unlike the days of old, Rehoboth is no longer a
one-season town. The meters may come down and Route 1 may become
bearable but anyone who knows this town knows that CAMP Rehoboth will
continue at full steam.
The Women’s Project has had a great summer of forging new
relationships with Washington’s Mautner Project and our own Rehoboth
Beach Film Society. You already know about or may have attended the
successful event that we hosted with the Mautner Project on August 2. By
the time you’re reading this article, the Women’s Project and the
Rehoboth Beach Film Society will have presented the exciting,
award-winning documentary, No Secret Anymore: The Times of Del Martin
and Phyllis Lyon, to a sold-out crowd at the Midway Theater. This is our
first opportunity to have an event together and we are already excited
about future collaborations. Many thanks to Queenz Quizine who always
does an outstanding job of providing great food and to all of you who
attended the event and showed your support.
Our Women’s Project Golf League also has been a tremendous way this
summer for women to meet other women and be able to play 18 holes. We’ve
heard that the 19th hole is great, too! They continue to gather on
Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Marsh Island Golf Club in Lewes. So get
out there and enjoy the nice days and even nicer women on the links.
Now let’s move on to the fall. On September 20, 2003, the Women’s
Project will host a table at the Mautner Project Gala in Washington, DC.
This year’s emcee of the event, Suzanne Westenhoefer, is fresh off of
a tour of Rehoboth at our last Women’s Conference weekend.
CAMP Rehoboth has been a long-time supporter of the Mautner Project
and this year is no exception. In addition to hosting a table, CAMP has
donated two items for their silent auction—a set of Murray Archibald’s
Sundance prints and a basketful of cool CAMP stuff. So, if you’re
going to attend the gala, you may want to get your bids in on these two
items. It’s always a fun event and the gowns and tuxedoes make for
great cruising. We’ll see you there!
We have begun discussions on an art show in the fall for women
artists. Artist extraordinaire, Murray Archibald, has generously agreed
to work with us on this event. It will be held at the CAMP Community
Center and courtyard. Watch for more news on this premier event in
future issues of Letters.
Preparations will begin soon for our 2004 Women’s Conference. We
will be looking for ideas and helping hands to pull it altogether for
next April’s Women’s Conference Weekend. Like we did in 2003, we
will be looking for new topics and fresh ideas to entice all of you to
keep coming back year after year. This will definitely be a "not to
miss" event and weekend.
Don’t plan on being a couch potato in the fall! Join with us to
help plan these enjoyable upcoming happenings. We would love to hear
from you and always welcome your ideas and opinions. Contact us at CAMP
