Chefs Roll Out for Meals On Wheels

Twenty six regional chefs will descend upon Dewey Beach to show off their culinary artistry on the last Sunday in September for the Fifth Annual Celebrity Chefs' Beach Brunch. The event, which benefits Meals On Wheels Delaware, attracted over 600 attendees last year and raised over $100,000. It is presented again this year by WSFS Bank and will be held Sunday, September 30, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Baycenter in Dewey.

A favorite among gourmet food lovers, the Celebrity Chefs' Beach Brunch already boasts an impressive list of participating restaurants: Atlantic Seafood Company, Back Porch Café, Big Fish, Bluecoast, Blue Moon, Café Azafran, Café Zeus, Catch 54, Celsius, Chez La Mer, Classic Catering, Cloud 9, Clubhouse at BayWood, Dos Locos, Eden, Espuma, Fins Fish House & Raw Bar, Fish On, Java Beach Bagel Co., JD Shuckers, Nage-Rehoboth Beach, Nage-Washington, D.C., North East Seafood Kitchen, The Pig + Fish Restaurant Company, Rehoboth Beach Country Club, Rocky Mt. Chocolate Factory, and Victoria's Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.

Wine, cocktails and beer are included, like a margarita bar by Dos Locos, a bloody mary bar by JD Shuckers, mimosas, wine and mixed drinks from United Distributors of Delaware, and two Delaware breweries will provide beer: Dogfish Head and New Castle County's newest gem, Twin Lakes Brewery.

"This is a unique event with all these great chefs from the region coming together for an important cause," says Scott Swingle of WSFS Bank and Chairman of the event since its inception in 2003. "We're really proud that it won a Best of Delaware award for Best Brunch Downstate this year, but more importantly, it helps so many older Delawareans who are struggling to feed themselves."

All proceeds benefit Meals On Wheels Delaware, whose five member agencies and their volunteers delivered over 620,000 meals to 4,300 homebound senior Delawareans last year. Meal recipients are over the age of 60 and physically unable to cook hot, nutritious meals for themselves. Funds raised go to ensure no eligible senior is on a waiting list to receive meals.

Included in the $95 Beach Brunch ticket price is endless sampling of the food prepared by each restaurant as well as cocktails and an abundant silent auction.
