It Takes Diversity To Make A Community
It’s amazing to me how many fantastic and caring people walk
through the doors of the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center each day. Many
drop in just to say hello or to say thank you for working so hard to
make a difference. Many also want to join with us in any way they can to
help us reach higher and higher. Whether it’s the goal to top last
year’s Sundance fundraiser; or to plan an art fair that exhibits
emerging as well as established women artists in our community; or to
help us reach our Capital Campaign goal of $1,000,000 over five years to
build a full-service Community Center, the members of our community are
right there offering to help in any way they can by giving to the
Community Center through their donation of friendship, time and money.
It’s not just the GLBT members of our community who support us but
also members from our business community and from our
community-at-large. They believe in our mission to create a more
positive environment in Rehoboth and to build a safe, inclusive
community for everyone.
The people in our community and their diversity make our community
interesting, enlightening and worthy to be associated with. For the past
three years especially, many of you have shown that you share the vision
to create a place where we can all live in friendship and harmony. You
have shown that we need to take care of our community, make it safe and
make it whole. Community provides all of us with an outlet to do good
work. In many ways we have forged a partnership with each other in which
we have built trust and understanding so that we can work together
toward a common goal. That’s the reason that we have been able to
reach $567,628.00 from 215 member pledges in the Founders’ Circle in a
little more than two years. That’s also why we will reach our
$1,000,000 goal as well.
Victories often tempt people to celebrate and move on to the next
challenge. Let’s go ahead and rejoice about where we are today. But we
will not forget to review what happened so we can replicate, or even
improve, our performance in the last three years of our Capital
Campaign. We need to be sure and focus on the goal and also reflect on
what we have learned about each of you in our community and your needs.
As part of our community partnership, we at CAMP Rehoboth have made
every effort to listen carefully so that we understand your interests,
opinions and concerns. We need to know what is important to you. In the
coming weeks, we will be planning a Founders’ Circle Open House. We
will review where we are with the expansion plans for the Community
Center, solicit your ideas and concerns, and work with those of you who
desire to be more involved. The architect from DPK&A, Bob Hotes,
will also be there to provide an update on progress. Watch for your
invitation in the mail! An open house for the public will be held at a
later date.
As you plan your holiday parties, please consider hosting a party
that will benefit the Founders’ Circle Capital Campaign. It’s a
great thing to do for your community and your friends will be able to
make a tax-deductible contribution. Also, a gift of membership to your
family and friends is a wonderful tribute to them and a great gift to
your community. They’ll receive cool gifts and a chance to see their
names "up in lights"! CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3)
organization and contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent
of the law.
