Edwin Krumm Solo Exhibit at The Buttery in
Lewes
Local artist Edwin Krumm is having a solo exhibit of his art at The
Buttery in downtown Lewes. The opening reception is Friday, October 17,
from 4-5:30 p.m.
A native of nearby Seaford, Delaware, Krumm says a teacher encouraged
him to explore mediums and subjects, which ultimately led him to attain
his BA in Art at Salisbury State University.
Krumm will exhibit an assortment of oil paintings, pastels, and
charcoals, allowing viewers to see a variety of influences and styles from
this newcomer to the local arts scene. Edwin says, "The works are
realistic, though you can see much of their inspiration comes from my
active imagination."
All are welcome to join Edwin and The Buttery as they help confirm the
spirit of new art and artists in Delaware’s oldest town.
The Buttery is located at the corner of Second Street and Savannah Road
in Lewes. Call 302-645-7755 for more information.
Picture This at Rehoboth’s Coastal Frameshop
Eight area artist/photographers come together to produce Exposures: A
Photographic Group Show at Coastal Frameshop and Gallery from October 17
through November 24, 2003. Well known photographers Roy Boucher, Pam
Montague, Bea Miltenberger, Richard Rhoads and David Stevens will be
joined by avocational camera buffs Fay Jacobs, Jane Blue and gallery
owner, Lee Wayne Mills.
A rich cross-section of black and white and hand-colored images join an
arresting selection of color ones in a display that will feature local and
regional scenes, far ranging travel vistas, intimate still-lifes and some
engaging abstractions. The gallery hopes to encourage area photographic
artists and increase pictorial savvy with the exhibition. Rhoads and
Miltenberger, members of the Coastal Camera Club of Sussex County, want to
promote awareness of the organization’s twice monthly meetings and
competitions.
Stevens exhibited at the Homestead Gallery at the Rehoboth Art League
this past season. Boucher, who regularly shows at Coastal Gallery,
recently exhibited at Cloud 9 Restaurant. Montague operates Lightspun
Gallery in Rehoboth.
A reception to meet the artist/photographers—free and open to the
public—will be held on Sunday, October 19 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. As is
Coastal Frameshop and Gallery’s policy, a portion of all sales from the
exhibition will benefit a local charity. This show will benefit the Sussex
County AIDS Committee.
Gallery hours for the fall and winter are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday through Saturday and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. For
further information call 302-227-8704.
Lightspun Gallery’s Pamela Montague Shows Jazz
Lightspun Gallery proudly presents Jazz, the artwork of Baltimore artist,
Mark Cottman, October 16-25th in the spirit of the Autumn Jazz Festival.
His rich and vibrant paintings will exhibit on the exterior east wall of
Lightspun Gallery along the walkway to Gingerbread Square. His jazz
collection will be on display throughout the festival weekend.
Cottman paints by creating stories in his mind, scenarios that help him
capture the feeling of the piece. By tapping that raw emotion, he gives
his painting its "soul." This self taught, award winning artist,
favors jazz, fruits, nudes, flowers, abstracts, his cat "Duke
Ellington," portraits and anything else that sits still long enough
for him to put on canvas.
"Fantasy, love, humor, and deep reflection are the perspective in
which I approach most subjects," Cottman says, "that’s why I
select rich, vibrant and jovial colors then combine them in a very
tasteful and unusual way. I want people to feel delicious after
experiencing my work."
Cottman’s acclaimed jazz paintings stir the soul because they are
straight from his soul.

New Work by Sondra Arkin at Blue Moon in Rehoboth Beach
New work by Sondra Arkin will be on display at the Blue Moon in
Rehoboth Beach during the month of November. The show, titled In Balance,
includes oil on canvas and oil pastels on paper. An opening reception with
the artist will be held at the restaurant, 35 Baltimore Avenue, Saturday,
November 1 from 2-4 p.m.
"Much of my work is about layers," she says, "stemming
my belief that our lives are constructed of moments layered upon one
another to build a textured life. It is the rare moments of balance that I
am trying to capture (or create) in these new works. I think they are a
very calming and soothing collection of pieces." The new works are a
natural progression from the strong geometric abstracts she has created in
the past.
Sondra has been coming to Rehoboth Beach for the past ten years and
acts as the Corporate Sponsorship Chair for the Sundance Benefit. Since
leaving her own corporate job two years ago to pursue art fulltime, Sondra
has refined her art and participated in a number of group shows including
the 2002 Art-o-Matic show in Washington DC. Her DolFan Dancer, created as
part of the "Dolphins Around Town" project, now has a permanent
home at CAMP Rehoboth.
