In the interim, Glen, as SCAC's Administrative Assistant, has been responsible for keeping the organization on track. "In fact," said one search committee member, "it was his hard work during the lost year that tipped the scales in his favor. Glen went through the same interview process as all the other final candidates, and there were some very qualified people among them."
The Board of Directors of SCAC is very excited and pleased with its new Director, and anticipates new vision and new energy for the organization. "Glen is now in the position," said Steve Elkins, "to make changes, to really make things happen. The Board is putting its trust in his leadership." Glen echoes that thought, "I'm very pleased," he says, "that the Board has given this vote of confidence to my work for SCAC. I'm excited, of course, and looking forward to getting the office back up to full strength."
Listening to the enthusiasm with which Glen talks about the future of SCAC, it's obvious that he will be devoting a great deal of his considerable talents to the ongoing life of the organization. When asked about his first goals as Director; Glen responded quickly, listing three immediate areas that need energy. "One," he says, "is to develop a more consistent volunteer program. One that will give a better opportunity far involvement in a direct way. Two," he continues, "is better outreach to the different parts of the community, especially the churches. And three, creating some new client services or programs.
Talking to persons involved in the AIDS community reminds us all that we are still in difficult times. Even with new treatments, people are still dying; and living with AIDS can be very expensive. Persons with AIDS may be facing a whole new set of problems and so are their families and communities. It will continue to take creative solutions to deal with this epidemic and its effect on our lives. It will continue to take creative and dedicated people like Glen Pruitt.
