Making Waves

by Tricia Massella

tricia-l.jpg (7777 bytes)Last Sunday was not your typical day of rest. It started out at 10 a.m. with the weekly revival game of basketball at Rehoboth Elementary School, which by the way, everyone is welcome to come play, sweat, watch, cheer or just nurse your hangover.

After a few hours of pounding rubber... everyone went their separate ways to get ready for the parties to come.

I had to stop at the Double Dippers first for one of Joe & Tom's already famous tropical fruit smoothies. Steve Elkins, who is addicted to the Batter Up Milk Shake, was in there ordering one of their new Fat Free selections. You see, Steve went to the doctor last week and found out his cholesterol was about as high as Mickey Mantle's total home runs during his career in baseball.

Your first instinct would be to say poor Steve, but it's actually Murray you should feel for. He had to recruit the entire staff of Lori's Cafe to assist in operation "STEVEsafe." Other dessert dynasties that were deputized were the Coffee Mill and Dream Cafe. Unfortunately, Steve has no will power and needs constant supervision. So, everyone's help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking Joe and Tom for their support in allowing Steve to order only from the fat free menu, I left to get ready for the evening. There were two incredible Tea Dances...Yum Yum's with DJ Tommy Walton and The Beach House with DJ Michelle Miruski. After the Tea's, everyone headed over to where it was snowing in August, the Blue Moon's 19th anniversary party. The beautiful white snow, falling in the midst of a Caribbean theme, was a fabulous touch as the crowd went wild dancing to the sounds of the popular duo "Pickled Ginger."

In addition to DJ Jame Foks on Saturday, August 14 and Michelle Miruski on Sunday, August 15, The Beach House is also celebrating Leo birthdays, with Lion shot specials all weekend. Happy Birthday to Lynn, Jill, Carol, Val, Maria, and the rest of you Leo's. Friday & Saturday the 20 & 21, Jame & DJ2 return.

A new addition to the Purple Parrot will be boogying in the Birdcage, with a DJ and dancing every Friday & Saturday starting at 10pm. Then DJ2 will be spinning tunes for a couple of Tea Dance's on Sunday, August 22 & Wednesday, August 25 from 4-8 p.m., also in the Birdcage.

On Thursday, August 19, Plumb Loco is giving away FREE promo items from the movie Better Than Chocolate during Kate & CJ's performance.

Saturday, August 21, get ready to dance under the Big Top, when The Renegade presents Circus 99 from 10 p.m. 'til dawn with DJ Jeff Harrison. This Saturday, August 14, you're in for a double treat, when Bill Keart & Alan Chasen will be the guest DJ's.

Yum Yum is having a Boxer Party Tea Dance on Sunday, August 22, with DJ Michelle Miruski from 5-8 p.m. They are matching every dollar donation at the door to benefit Sundance 99. So come join the fun, and don't forget to wear your boxers to receive drink coupons.

August 28, the Blue Moon is having a "Step back to the 70's Party, " and on the 29th, don't miss Cloud 9's pre-SUNDANCE party with DJ Rick Mitchell.
