Chambers Show at Peninsula Gallery

The Peninsula Gallery brings images derived from the human form to their exhibition space in April. Entitled "The Color of Anatomy", the work is by Leigh Anne Chambers who recently moved to Delaware from North Carolina. Originally from Nova Scotia, she received her BFA in Painting Concentration from East Carolina University in 1988.

Of her work, Chambers says, "My goal as an artist is to fuse a sensual relationship between the viewer and the art. It is my intent to broaden the perimeters of our appreciation of the human form, as well as to bring a fresh perspective to a classic theme. I create work that is recognizable yet abstract and I try to symbolically portray the essence of the human spirit."

Gallery owners, Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron, see her work as being more adventurous than the majority of works that they feature in their exhibitions. "Its appeal is more in what the viewer imagines than in what can actually be seen", says Tony. "Her work invites the viewer into an intimate space, which is both contemplative and visceral. The paintings parallel the physical and spiritual aspects of humans".

Chambers' works are mixed media and are created using an encaustic technique combining beeswax pigment and varnish. Through under painting, incising, gouging and scraping, the layers are achieved.
