With the beautiful weather, massive crowds, and onslaught of events, the July 4th holiday has been reported to be the busiest and most prosperous weekend to date this year. Whether you were socializing, shopping or sunbathing, there seemed to be excitement everywhere. This is just the beginning of what the summer has in store... First off, mark your calendars for the third annual "Best Pet at the Beach Contest" sponsored by Atlantic Color Lab located in the Village by the Sea, 149 Rehoboth Avenue. Bring in your favorite pet photo to be displayed and voted on by area residents and tourists. The contest, a fund raiser to benefit the SPCA of Sussex County, will raise money by charging $1 per vote per pet. All proceeds plus an additional $100 from David George, owner of Atlantic Color Lab will be donated to the shelter. Photos will be accepted starting Friday, July 28 through Sunday, August 13 and the first, second, and third place winners will be announced Monday, August 14. The Thunderbird Shop and Gallery at 200 Rehoboth Avenue is celebrating 48 years in business, and Saturday, July 22, they will feature flutist Jeff Ball and his band performing music from their new "Cedar Moon" CD. Jeff will also be available for conversation and to sign CDs. Be prepared for a night of wonderful uplifting contemporary songs from the American Indian cedar flute accompanied by a rich mixture of drums, guitar, piano, and bass. Saturday, July 15 from 9 p.m. to sunrise, Randy Marshall & Tommy Gibson will host their 7th annual Full Moon Party. DJ Robbie Leslie will be spinning under a tent on their lawn at 330 Beech Drive in Sandy Brae. Jam Foks returns with another Splash Party at the Beach House, Saturday, July 15 at 10 p.m. and Regina AaMacha will perform there on Friday, July 28 at 10 p.m. Cloud 9 celebrates their 6th anniversary with a party on Sunday, July 16, starting with happy hour and hors d'oeuvres from 4 to 7 p.m., and followed by dancing at 10 p.m. with BUC. Yum Yum presents consecutive Sunday Tea dances with DJ Tommy Walton on July 16 and 23. The special event, Island Rituals, will take place on Saturday, July 29 presenting more sound, more lighting, 2 dance floors, fashion shows, live performances and guest DJ's. Mark McFarland may look like he's about to cool off and take a dip in his outdoor fish pond, but he's actually keeping several large Koi happy and healthy with regular cleaning and filtering. The pond is a popular attraction at Acropolis, the Baltimore Avenue store owned by Mark and Mike Lobb. In fact, Acropolis is home to several Japanese, Butterfly, and Colorado Koi ranging from 5 to 18 inches in lengththey can grow up to 3 feet long and live from 40 to 60 years.
