A few weeks ago I was quite concerned when I arrived at the office and found Murray and Kathy consoling Steve with words of kindness and encouragement. I asked what was wrong. Steve pointed to the trash can, and I went over and picked out a crumpled piece of paper, almost afraid to see what it was. It turned out to be a membership application to AARP, plus a subscription to Modern Maturity magazine. You see, Steve is turning 50 on July 2! Happy Birthday, Steve. Independence Day has arrived, and there's no better place to celebrate than Rehoboth Beach. The 4th annual display of fireworks will be launched from the water on Sunday, July 2 around 9:15 p.m. at the boardwalk on Rehoboth Avenue. So bring a blanket and enjoy the show. On your way, follow the "Moose Tracks" to the Double Dippers old fashioned ice cream parlor, located across from Plumb Loco on 2nd street. This mouth watering new selection combines Edy's natural vanilla with swirls of homemade fudge and chunks of real chocolate peanut butter cups. Steve, you'll be happy to know that Joe and Tom have a special low fat "Birthday Sundae" with your name on it. Congratulations to John Theis and Bill Sievert who are celebrating a double anniversary this year. 27 years together in life and 20 years together in their successful business Splash. Originally located in Washington, DC, Splash moved to Rehoboth 16 years ago and is now located at 58 Baltimore Avenue. The store carries a large selection of popular names in fashion from Sauvage, Jocko, and Cotton Reel to Anxious, BC Ethic, YMLA and more. Furniture Gallery, located on Highway One (next to Arby's), has been so busy with custom orders, they not only put little Rebecca to work, but decided to run a 10% off all unfinished furniture sale for a limited time in July. Don't worry, their special design work is still available featuring anything your heart desires in nautical, whimsical, floral, and yes, even pink flamingos. Eric Brown, Brian Davis, and R.J. Willoughby decided to beat the heat and spend the afternoon at the Renegade Resort relaxing by the pool with an incredible lunch prepared by Chef Bill Wilson. Eric ordered the Hoisin Chicken Skewer, a grilled Kabob consisting of marinated chicken breast, bell peppers, onions, and tomato, served over a bed of oriental rice. Brian opted for the Caesar salad topped with grilled shrimp and a mixture of garden fresh vegetables, while R.J. decided to sink his teeth into the 1/2 lb. lean burger smothered with Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and bacon. In addition to a four day holiday extravaganza with music by DJ Jeff Harrison (see page 41), The Renegade will present an Independence Pool Splash on Tuesday, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The colorful event will feature a variety of frozen drink specials and exciting pool games. Lunch will be served from 12 - 3 p.m. DJ Jam Foks is back and doing a total of 5 Ladies parties at the beach this weekend. Three Tea Dances at The Renegade on Saturday, July 1, Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, from 4 - 8 p.m., and two Splash parties at The Beach House Restaurant on Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2 at 10 p.m. Cloud 9 presents the Anything For Love Party on Friday, June 30 at 10 p.m. with DJ Michael DeCero. The door proceeds will be donated to the 6th annual Love benefit, which takes place on Saturday, July 1 from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. at the Convention Center with music by DJ Darryl Strickland. Check the calendar on page (82) for the special events happening at Cloud 9, the Blue Moon, Purple Parrot and Yum Yum, just to name a few. Don't miss the opening reception for artist Murray Archibald's new paintings Lifedance at the Blue Moon, Saturday, July 8 from 3-5 p.m. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend... see you around town. Melinda Dingess, Rebecca Lusk and Marlene Lusk at the Furniture Gallery. Rachel Whitcomb and Tynisha Downing at the Beach House. Eric Brown, Brian Davis and R.J. Willoughby in the Renegade Pool. Splash owners John Theis, Bill Sievert, and dog Nikki. Tricia Massella is the Advertising Manager for Letters.
