Rodeo Round-Up in Rehoboth Beach |
|
The Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association (ASGRA) is riding its way into Rehoboth. ASGRA is a charitable and social organization that promotes the sport of Rodeo and the country western lifestyle within the gay community. Delaware is one of the states included in the ASGRA family, and Rehoboth Beach will host this summer's general membership meeting July 14-16. "Bringing rodeo to Rehoboth not only reaches our beach-going members from Baltimore and Washington, but also works to remind rodeo fans in Delaware that they are an integral part of ASGRA," says Sonny Koerner, the current Mr. ASGRA 2000. "One of our goals, and, in fact part of our mission, is to continue our outreach to all the communities within the ASGRA association and educate them about rodeo, the elements of the country western lifestyle, and ASGRA itself." With all this in mind, ASGRA will bring not only its membership meeting to our community, but a myriad of events developed to entertain and educate, including a kick-off reception to start the weekend right. On Friday, July 14 at 7:00 p.m., the Double L Bar will host ASGRA members and friends with drink specials and contests. Saturday brings a "rodeo" to Poodle Beach, starting at 2:30 p.m. The beach rodeo will include camp-style rodeo events that are sure to be crowd pleasers. "We'll be looking to get all the beach-goers involved with the events," says Koerner. "It's going to be a new and fun way to spend an afternoon at the beachthe events will be fun and even hilarious." These cowboys and cowgirls will be able to teach you things with rope that you never dreamed possible. Following the afternoon fun, members will congregate at the Renegade for their monthly membership meeting. On Saturday, a Country Tea Dance at the Renegade Resort will cap-off ASGRA's weekend at the beach. The dance is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. and ASGRA encourages everyone to join them. Dance lessons, and great company, will make the atmosphere friendly to everyone. Even those new to country western will be able to join the line dancing and two-steppin' ranks before the night is over. As part of ASGRA's continued outreach to all member states, the association plans to host its annual "Hoedown" dance at the Baltimore Museum of Science and Industry on July 22. The event is strictly social, with plans for members and friends to dance the night away in the beautiful "Charm City." For more information about ASGRA, membership, or the association's upcoming events, visit them at www.asgra.org or call the ASGRA Hotline at (202) 547-9590. ASGRA hopes to see the entire Rehoboth Cowboy/Cowgirl contingent out in force that weekend! |
