Subscriptions are on sale now; they are $75.00, which guarantees 1 ticket to each of HTP's three shows. That's a ten-dollar savings off the single ticket price. This tribute to the legendary singer and actress stars Klea Blackhurst and the Pocket Change Trio, direct from their NY run. (Ms. Blackhurst most recently appeared on the Rosie O'Donnell show.) Tickets are $50.00 for the show and $60.00 for the show and post-performance reception. All proceeds will benefit the Henlopen Theater Project, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Women's Health Conference Scheduled for May 2002 The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and Screening for Life, a program of Delaware's Division of Public Health, and Corexcel are sponsoring a training workshop for health care providers about the needs of their lesbian clients. This training will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Delaware Technical and Community College, Terry Campus in Dover, DE. Interested individuals are encouraged to register early; space is limited to 50 participants. Members of the lesbian population experience health concerns similar to those of heterosexual women, as well as unique concerns. Many lesbians do not receive routine health screenings and fear homophobic responses from health care providers. Lesbians experience increased risk factors for certain diseases, such as breast cancer, and guidelines for lesbian patients about safer sex and the need for Pap tests are lacking. Through funding from the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer has developed a training program to improve access to health care services for lesbians. The Removing the Barriers: Providing Culturally Competent Care to Lesbians and Women Who Partner with Women training workshop uses the principles of cultural competency to build skills and enhance health care provider knowledge of the issues affecting lesbians and women who partner with women. The training describes the barriers faced by lesbians as they try to access health care services, and gives providers the tools they need to dismantle those barriers within their practices and/or institutions. Providers can work to increase their comfort discussing sexuality with their patients, develop a common language around sexuality and generally create an environment where all their patients, regardless of sexual orientation or behavior, feel comfortable and safe to share important personal information. "The Mautner Project's training has been offered throughout the country, but this is the first time the training will be offered in Delaware," says Sandra Hoy, Program Coordinator at DBCC. "It will be a great opportunity for providers to learn about lesbian health concerns," adds Hoy. For information or to register, contact Sandra Hoy at DBCC by phone at (302) 778-1102 or by e-mail at shoy@debreastcancer.org CAMP Rehoboth Founder's Circle unveils HeART of the Community art project On Saturday, June 1, the second annual CAMP Rehoboth Founder's Circle event will take place at the Atlantic Sands Ballroom on Baltimore Avenue at the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach. The event, called The Black and White Beach Ball, is designed to honor those who are providing financial support for the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Project (CRCCP) and to encourage new members in the Founder's Circle. Founder's Circle levels range from $100 to $15,000 and above. A highlight of the evening will be an art auction called the HeART of the Community. Using the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center house and heart logo for inspiration, sixteen artists have agreed to produce a painting for the event. "We've been talking about something like this for several years," says HeART of the Community project co-chair Sondra Arkin. "Murray [Archibald] and I wanted to create a project that would bring artists together to conceptualize and create a unique body of work." That body of work will be unveiled at the June Founder's Circle event, and will also be reproduced as a set of greeting cards to be sold during the coming year to raise additional funds for the Community Center Project. "We started out to find ways of raising money for The Center," Sondra says, but we found we were raising something more important along the way. The foundation of a community center is people working togetherit's built on love and tolerance and community. That's what this project is about. I can't wait to see how all the artists interpret the theme." Many of the artists involved in the project are well known to the Rehoboth Beach Community. The artists signed up for the project are: Murray Archibald, Sondra Arkin, Julie Baxendell, Tanja Bos, Rod Cook, Andrew Criss, Amy Elizabeth, Ward Ellinger, Gary Fisher, Barb Kinney, Lee Wayne Mills, Annette Mosiej, Brian Petro, Mary Beth Ramsey, Patti Shreeve, and Randy Wise. "We are thrilled that The Heart of the Community Project will be a part of the Black and White Beach Ball," says Beach Ball co-chair Andrea Andrus. "The whole evening promises to be fun, as well as inspiring. We're also excited," she says, "because Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner will be with us to say a few words about community." The Black and White Beach Ball will be Saturday, June 1, starting at 5 p.m. at the Atlantic Sands. Dress for the event is black and white casual. Tickets are $30 per person, and are complimentary for Founder's Circle members at the Friend level and above. Of special interest to Founder's Circle members: all premiums due for pledging certain levels will be available at the Black and White Beach Ball or can be picked up at the CAMP office after the event.
