LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
Speak Out |
I write to thank the three hundred plus Rehoboth Beach residents and visitors who attended "A Victory Celebration Benefit" held on August 6, 2004 at the Atlantic Sands Hotel. This celebration honoring Matthew Cusick, an HIV positive gymnast who won a groundbreaking HIV discrimination law suit against his former employer Cirque du Soleil, was a very successful event whose proceeds will support the efforts of the AIDS Action Foundation and the Sussex County AIDS Council. The benefit's success is owed to the support and hard work of many people who were willing to work for a common and absolutely necessary goal: the health and well-being of HIV positive people in Rehoboth Beach and beyond.
It's a bit unusual for a national organization like AIDS Action to conduct a benefit in a resort community like Rehoboth Beach. In other communities, turf issues, personal differences, and competition have been common place, not so in Rehoboth Beach. The following organizations and individuals were among the many who deserve credit for their generosity and willingness to help: CAMP Rehoboth and Letters; SCAC, EXP, Chris Riss, Wayne Hodge, and the 18 hosts featured in the Celebration Benefit program. In addition, a special word of thanks to Peter Casey of the Atlantic Sands Hotel who went far beyond the call of duty with help for this event. AIDS Action Foundation was honored to work with the Rehoboth Beach community and we both admire and appreciate your demonstration of true collaboration and cooperation. Thank you. Ken South Director of Development AIDS Action As a life-long resident of Rehoboth Beach whose family has lived and worked here for three generations, I am supporting Tjark Bateman's candidacy for City Commissioner in Rehoboth Beach. I have known Tjark since childhood and am impressed by his common sense approach to the issues of importance to the City of Rehoboth Beach. Tjark cares about our community and quality of life here. He cares about downtown businesses. He cares about our precious beach environment. I urge you to vote for Tjark Bateman on August 14, and give him the opportunity to preserve and protect the integrity of Rehoboth Beach. Sabrina D. Hill Enclosed is the first quarter Royalty Disbursement from the Rehoboth Beach Credit Card program. To date, the card programs have raised almost $14,000 benefitting the Rehoboth Beach community through CAMP Rehoboth, the Delaware Center for Inland Bays, and Rehoboth Beach Main Street. Atlantic Horizons has made a total of 11 royalty disbursements for the Rehoboth Card program and we are excited about the future. Encourage those who care about CAMP Rehoboth, and Rehoboth Beach in general, to apply for the card. Each time the card is used, donations are made that directly benefit CAMP. If you have any suggestions on how we can make more people aware of the Rehoboth Beach card program, please let us know! Your active involvement will ensure that the dollar amount donated each quarter will continue to increase. This could mean thousands of dollars each year for CAMP Rehoboth, so please encourage members, staff and friends of CAMP to use their cards! We have enjoyed creating this program for Rehoboth Beach and we are happy to have CAMP Rehoboth as a beneficiary. Have a great summer and we look forward to continuing our support for your wonderful organization. Chip Thompson & Tim Green Atlantic Horizons, LLC |
