In recognition of CAMP Rehoboth’s 20th anniversary, we’re continuing our Volunteer Spotlight to honor many of the behind-the-scenes heroes that we’re so fortunate to have in our CAMP family.
The Spotlight will be an ongoing column in Letters and will feature recipients who’ve been selected by the volunteers themselves and you, our readers.
If you know someone whose efforts are worthy of consideration, please make a nomination. We’ll be maintaining a database that will be used to help determine future recipients. Email us at info@camprehoboth.com and put “Volunteer Spotlight” in the subject line
Better yet, come join us. We always need new volunteers!
Ken Reilly and Tony Ghigi on Vounteering for CAMP
Expectant grandfathers, Tony and Ken are the proud fathers of a son, Shawn Reilly. They are both retired and reside in Rehoboth Beach.
How long have you been Volunteering for CAMP Rehoboth and what/who prompted you to get involved?
We started volunteering at CAMP Rehoboth about 5 years ago. We moved here from New Jersey and our friends, who also do volunteer work here, told us about the positive things CAMP does for the entire community and the surrounding area. We’ve been involved ever since.
What have you enjoyed most about your Volunteer experience?
The opportunity to do something positive for the community and meeting new and wonderful people, while seeing first hand all of the positive changes being made.
What is your best memory of helping at CAMP Rehoboth?
Working with the West Rehoboth kids and their photography and baking classes. They were thrilled and so were we!
If you had an extra hour in the day, what would you do?
Ken would clean, cook, bake, and volunteer at New Life Thrift Store, and Tony would help someone in need.
If you could spend a full day with one person, who would it be? Why?
Each other! We’re not only partners, we’re also best friends.
“Wouldn’t you like to be a CAMPer too?” How would you help encourage someone to get involved with CAMP?
We would invite them to visit and spend some time at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, and encourage them to ask questions about the purpose and mission of CAMP. That way they would learn exactly what it is that CAMP does. If they had an extra hour in the day, we’d ask them to come volunteer with us at a condom stuffing party…it saves lives!
SHHHH! Please provide a little known fact about you…until now, that is (something unrelated to CAMP!)
Tony loves Sudoku puzzles, cook books, cooking, and gardening. Ken likes to paint, bake, cook, decorate, and garage sales.
One favorite thing about Rehoboth…
The literal meaning of Rehoboth…ROOM FOR ALL!!!
If you have any, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Travel. Exploring different states and countries. Taking photographs. Spending time with family and friends.
Speaking on behalf of your many friends at CAMP, we extend our sincere thanks for the dedication and support you’ve offered us for years. And an early “Congratulations” on becoming granddads! He or she will be one lucky baby! All the best!
