Here Comes the Sun
Sundance that is! This Labor Day weekend event includes a giant auction and cocktail party on Saturday, and an even bigger dance on Sunday. There is nothing like walking into the Convention Center, finding it transformed into the most amazing dance club you can imagine and getting happy feet with hundreds of fabulous people! What are you waiting for? Get your tickets now on the CAMP Rehoboth website!
Isn’t it wonderful that we have so much to celebrate? Wahoo! Now we have weddings galore! Speaking of that, couples have been asking me for suggestions on places to tie the knot. So dear readers, let me throw that question out to you— if you were getting married at the beach—where would your celebration take place? I’ll reward the most creative suggestion with a $25 gift card from Rehoboth Main Street (good at over 200 restaurants, shops, hotels, and more).
So often this column touts the latest restaurant or store, but let me introduce you to some other things you might not know about. The Delaware Seashore State Park offers Beginners’ Stargazing at the Indian River Life-Saving Station; and, Crabbing 101 at the Indian River Marina. Like history? Last year I went on one of the Heritage Bus Tours offered through Southern Delaware Tourism, and had a ball. Not only did we visit several historic sites that I had never been to, but I met two wonderful women that had been together for 40 years! In September, sashay away to the 36th Annual Nanticoke Indian Powwow, check out the dancing and peruse the American Indian arts and crafts, jewelry, and pottery. This year is the very first Lewes Dragon Boat Festival which will be held on the canal on September 15 as a benefit for Sussex Academy, the only charter school in our area. The Rehoboth Art League is bringing back the Beaux Arts Ball (September 21), a masquerade costumed event that began in 1939. (I’ll use any excuse to dress up, won’t you?) Feeling athletic and adventurous? DelMarVa Board Sport Adventures offers paddleboard yoga on the Assawoman Bay.
So many restaurants, so little time! Eating Rehoboth culinary tours lets you try five restaurants in a single afternoon and learn a little history of Rehoboth while you stroll. And August 22 is the First Annual Taste of Rehoboth at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, benefitting the Food Bank of Delaware.
A Halloween store is going into the space formerly occupied by Stackhouse Collectibles (behind the Delaware Distilling Company). Christmas Tree Hill is opening two stores, one in Tanger Bayside and the other in Tanger Seaside. Bonkey’s Ice Cream has opened in the former Gelato Gal space.
Nymphaea, featuring women’s clothing, has opened in First Street Station on Rehoboth Avenue, along with Unique Art where you can buy a picture of the Mona Lisa holding various breeds of dogs (I kid you not). On Baltimore Avenue, tucked behind Universal Gear are two fun shops. One is called Passionate Living (go check it out) and the other is L & L Retro whose slogan is “We Dye for You” (tie dye, that is!)
See you on the dance floor!
