Creating a More Positive Rehoboth...Creating a More Positive World. We are people who appreciate diversity...gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
heterosexual...residents and regular visitors...homeowners and renters...people from the
full range of those who enjoy Rehoboth Beach. CAMP Rehoboth welcomes all people who share
our vision of a diverse and vibrant Rehoboth Beach.
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, founded as a Methodist Summer
Camp, has long been a favorite getaway for residents of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and
Philadelphia. As its popularity and renown have spread, thriving year-round and seasonal
communities have developed. These have common and dissimilar elements, including all kinds
of people.
CAMP Rehoboth was founded in 1991 to help foster
understanding among and within various "groups," to nurture the growth of
Rehoboth Beach, and build bonds with its related communities.
CAMP Rehoboth continues to grow in many directions, and has
become an important part of the Rehoboth community. As we look to the future, our hopes
lie in creating a new physical space to serve as a community center. It is our belief that
CAMP Rehoboth is here to serve, not only the gay and lesbian community, but the whole
community as well. Rehoboth is a biblical name meaning, "room for all." It is
our aim to live up to that name.

CAMP Rehoboth Mission Statement and Purpose
CAMP Rehoboth is a nonprofit community
service organization dedicated to creating a more positive environment in
Rehoboth Beach and its related communities. We seek to promote cooperation
and understanding among all people, as we work to build safe, inclusive
communities with room for all.
We seek to promote community well-being on
all levels; to foster the development of community groups; to develop
community space; to promote human and civil rights; to work against
prejudice and discrimination; to lessen tensions among the community at
large; and to help foster the economic growth of the area. We work toward
these ends through activities such as the following:
- Fundraising for other organizations,
such as AIDS service organizations, gay and lesbian community
organizations, recycling programs, environmental projects, literacy
training, and other ventures for the general betterment of the
community.
- Networking resources and information by
publishing a newsletter, and functioning as an alternative tourist
bureau and information center.
- Promoting
artistic expressions and creative thinking, and giving aid to artists
and craftspeople with an emphasis on the works of lesbians and gay
men.
- Education
and outreach to the larger community, including sensitivity training
seminars, and printed materials to promote positive images of gay and
lesbian people and others.
- Promoting
political awareness to build safe and inclusive community through
voter information, education, and registration; and analysis of issues
and candidates.
CAMP REHOBOTH is not a place to pitch your
tent or hook-up your RV. It's not a place to send your kids for two weeks each summer.
It's not really a camp at all. CAMP Rehoboth is a non-profit community
service organization dedicated to creating a more positive environment in Rehoboth Beach
and its related communities.
Founded in January 1991, CAMP is an acronym for Create A
More Positive Rehoboth. CAMP Rehoboth seeks to promote cooperation and understanding among
all people, as we seek to build a safe and inclusive community. After all, the name
"Rehoboth" means "room for all!"
