"I always enjoyed going to the Chorus shows - everyone looked like they were having fun. I decided to join last year when I saw that the Chorus was doing songs from the 50s and 60s."

Maureen Ewadinger, Alto

The Chorus is Maureen's first singing experience and she loves it. A Philly girl, Maureen grew up surrounded by music. Her parents often listened to albums from the hit Broadway shows of the day - Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, West Side Story; her three sisters took piano and singing lessons. Maureen enjoyed music and as a teenager liked going to New York City to see shows, but music lessons weren't for her. She was the girl in the cowboy outfit who preferred playing with cars and trucks and riding her bike. She was also the girl who loved being a Girl Scout. Most of all she loved being outdoors and still does.

Ever since she can remember, Maureen wanted to be a nurse - she "just wanted to help people." After completing a 3-year nursing program at the Abington Memorial School of Nursing, she joined an order of medical nuns in Washington, DC, dedicated to providing better medical care and training for the needy of the world. She had been drawn to the mission of the nuns but decided to leave the convent after three years to follow a similar but different path. What followed was a 35-year career in nursing at the Holy Cross Hospital in Washington, DC. While there, Maureen earned BS and MS degrees in Nursing from the University of Maryland.

In 2006, Maureen moved to Milford with her former partner. She worked for the State of Delaware for six years as a Public Health Nurse in the early intervention program for children. This was quite a change because all of her previous clinical work had been with adults, but she found she enjoyed working with children very much.

Now fully retired, Maureen has time to do the things she loves to do. There are lots of them -tending her garden, bird watching, walking on the beach or in the woods, reading, art, history - Maureen can always find something to amuse her. She has two cats, Scooter, and Fearless (a female of course). Maureen actively supports nature conservancy and other environmental causes and is quick to help where needed. You are likely to see her volunteering at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Epworth United Methodist Church, CAMP Rehoboth or wearing a green VOV shirt at the Food Bank and other spots around the area. Back in the day, you would also have seen her staffing a first aid station during the anti-war protest in Washington which occurred the week after the Kent State shootings.

The Chorus has given Maureen an opportunity to do two things she enjoys, meeting new people and learning new things (reading music!). What does she enjoy most about being in the chorus? Singing at assisted living and health care facilities and seeing how enthusiastically the clients respond to the music.

Thank you, Maureen for all you do for CAMP Rehoboth and the community. We love having you in the Chorus!
