Seniors Soaring Hosts Guest Speaker
Becky Madden, marketing director at CHEER, a pivotal and vital senior services resource for Delawareans, will present an introduction and provide information about CHEER at a meeting of Seniors Soaring! The meeting will be held on April 10, 2006, at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, 37 Baltimore Ave. All are welcome, including anyone who is in a care giving role for parents or other elderly members of the community. Cheer provides a full line of services to the elderly and also helps connect seniors with other resources as well. Team Rehoboth Beach Issues Final Call for Gay Games Athletes Team Rehoboth Beach is making a final call for athletes to register for the seventh quadrennial Gay Games in Chicago July 15-22, 2006. "The Gay Games is the premier GLBT athletic and cultural event, bringing together a global community of athletes and artists every four years," said Rich Williams, President of Team Rehoboth Beach. "Athletes from all regions with ties to Rehoboth Beach should not miss out on this chance to be inspired and to help promote Rehoboth Beach to the world." Athletes can register for the Gay Games at www.chicagogaygames.org. Late fees apply after April 15, 2006. There are 30 sports, at all levels, with no tryouts. Team Rehoboth Beach Official Gay Games Uniform Jackets are now on sale at www.teamrehobothbeach.org. Team Rehoboth Beach is the only team on the east coast which has licensed the official Gay Games interlocking rings logo for its team uniform. Team Rehoboth Beach Inc. is a tax exempt, nonprofit Delaware corporation dedicated to promoting GLBT sports in the Rehoboth Beach community. The group has hosted charity sports events including the GLTA sanctioned Rehoboth Beach Open Tennis Tournament and is organizing Rehoboth Beach's first ever delegation to the Gay Games. CAMPsafe Needs Summer Worker The CAMPsafe project of CAMP Rehoboth is now accepting applications for part-time summer outreach workers in Rehoboth Beach. Outreach workers will be trained to deliver HIV prevention messages and materials to individials and groups in public settings where gay and bisexual men gather. Work shifts and times vary from Friday through Sunday. Day and late night shifts available. Must be comfortable talking with many people and in large groups. Cheap Beach Reads In Rehoboth Tired of tripping over that stack of books? Donate them to the Rehoboth Beach Library book sale May 20, it is the last sale before summer, and promises to be a good one. At 50 cents a book, who cares if it ends up with sand in it? CAMP Rehoboth is once again organizing the event, and staffing the sale. Donations are accepted at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, 37 Baltimore Avenue. The book sale will be held at the Rehoboth Beach Library, 226 Rehoboth Avenue (across from the Fire Hall). Starburst Gayla Committee Donates $20,000 Proceeds from the Starburst Gayla New Year's Eve benefit, were presented to Women Heart, The Sussex County Wellness Community, and CAMP Rehoboth. Patti Shreeve Painting is Part of Global Art Project Rehoboth artist, Patti Shreeve, is displaying a painting at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center as a participant in the Global Art Project. Since 1994, this project has linked artists around the world in a grassroots effort to promote world peace. Artists, from school children to professionals, create a piece, display it in their community from April 1st until Earth Day on April 22nd. Then, they send the artwork to whoever they are paired with. This painting will be going to a participant in Kyoto, Japan. This year, the project includes an interactive aspect. Your hand, traced on paper, can be included in a future collaborative piece. Stop by to participate and to see the artwork. DC Gay Policeman Heads to Rehoboth Beach Sgt. Brett Parson, a DC policeman and national leader in GLBT-police relations was in Rehoboth Beach earlier this month to address police from around the state on issues concerning domestic violence in same-sex relationships. Hosted by the Delaware Violence Coordinating Council and the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the one-day seminar was an opportunity for Delaware law enforcement officials to discuss the dynamics of intimate partner violence and investigation of domestic crimes in the GLBT community. Sgt. Parson, an openly gay member of the DC Metropolitan Police Department, was joined by CAMP Rehoboth Executive Director Steve Elkins. |
