Unforgettable Weekend Planned for CAMPsafe Retreat |
Our headline may look like the boastful wording you'd find in the classified ads of a gay newspaper, but we don't think we're overstating our case for the experiences that await you during the first-ever CAMPsafe Men's Weekend at the Renegade Resort, Oct. 2-3.
For two afternoons, exciting group sessions will probe deeply into the subjects of safe sexual exploration and relationship building. This marks the first time the popular workshops, led by experienced facilitators from Washington's Whitman-Walker Clinic, will be offered in the state of Delaware. There is no charge to participate, and all you have to do is let us know you're coming. (See form accompanying this article). You do need to register soon (by September 15) because the size of each group session is limited. The guys from Whitman-Walker are not going to waste your autumn afternoons on boring lectures. Gay and bisexual men in Washington have put their names on waiting lists for months to get an opportunity to participate in the two sessions we're offering. The workshops include "The Dating Game" and "The Anatomy of Pleasure." As the folks at Whitman-Walker put it, "you'll want to come just for the homework." "The Anatomy of Pleasure" (Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2) will explore the male body and demonstrate ways to manipulate the web of nerve endings that bundle up into the body's pleasure centers. The workshop presents opportunities to discover creative options for safely satisfying your partner and yourself. "The Dating Game, Strategies for Success" (Sunday, Oct. 3) will consider creative approaches to finding a man and keeping him happy. Who are you looking for and where are you looking for him? How can you approach and woo a guy from the first move to a second date to stages beyond? How do you keep a relationship fresh for the long run? The facilitators will include two of Whitman-Walker's most respected leader/instructors. Tom Plummer is the Prevention and Education Coordinator of the clinic's G-Net program, which promotes men's wellness. G-Net offers a network of comprehensive services to enhance our health and well being by building community and by embracing and celebrating gay sexuality, relationships and culture. Tom also writes a regular column on these subjects for The Washington Blade. Larry Villegas, a trained nurse and educator, has provided technical assistance on HIV prevention and education in minority communities at the national, state and local levels. He is acting director of Latino Services at Whitman-Walker and is chairperson of the Needs Assessment Committee for the HIV Community Planning Committee in the District of Columbia. Larry is also involved with DC Men Against Rape, which educates men on non-violence and gender equality. The Renegade motel is generously offering participants a reduced-rate room package for those who want to stay Friday and/or Saturday nights. The package includes complimentary passes to that Saturday night's dance and use of all the resort's facilities. You may sign up for one or both groups. You can even register by e-mail. Simply send your information to CAMPsafe@camprehoboth.com. We will send you a confirmation and more detailed information. To register for rooms, please call The Renegade Resort directly at 227-4713. Be sure to specify that you are attending the CAMPsafe Retreat. All gay and bisexual men of ages 18 and up are welcome to attend the retreat, and we particularly encourage residents of Southern Delaware to share in this first-ever opportunity to experience Whitman-Walker's wonderful expertise. CAMPsafe is an HIV education and safe-sex outreach program of CAMP Rehoboth, supported by Delaware's Division of Health and Human Services. |
