Anodos Opens Substance Abuse Outpatient Treatment Anodos, Inc., is moving quickly to provide an Intensive Outpatient Program for the treatment of addiction to drugs and alcohol following the decision of Beebe Medical Center to close their substance abuse program. Recognizing the drug and alcohol problem in the community, especially in the younger population, Anodos is hoping to provide needed assistance to individuals who are struggling with misuse of substances, as well as family members who are impacted. The certified addictions counselors and administration of Anodos consist of individuals recovering from their addiction to chemicals, consequently they are aware of and sympathetic to the havoc created by addiction. In addition to the newly developed Intensive Outpatient Program, Anodos provides group and individual counseling in the area of addiction as well as intervening and providing options for family systems attempting to deal with the problems created by this disease. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To obtain information or schedule an appointment, call 302-227-8502. In addition, Anodos staff members are available to speak with community organizations, businesses and civic groups. Lesbian Health Initiative ExtrAvagina Fundraiser The Lesbian Health Initiative (LeHI) continues its series of fundraisers at ROAM with a new schedule the second Saturday of every month. The next ExtrAvagina party will be held Saturday, February 13, at ROAM in Wilmington, Delaware. The $3 cover will all go to benefit the LeHI. Funds will be used to continue the outreach and prevention efforts to increase public knowledge about health care issues specific to lesbians. LeHI volunteers will be asking partygoers to fill out surveys for the lesbian health study and health care provider referral list. Everyone who fills out both surveys will have their cover charge refunded. These efforts will help to identify needs of lesbians in the community and develop a database of physicians who are sympathetic to lesbian health issues. This database will be available by phone for all women who need referrals to health care providers. LeHI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the physical and emotional well being of lesbians in Delaware through education, outreach, referral, and advocacy. ROAM is at 913 Shipley Street in downtown Wilming-ton, just minutes from I-95. The party starts at 9 p.m. For information or for driving directions, please call the Lesbian Health Initiative at 302-652-8786. Make a Date for Dinner on March 4 The ninth annual Dining Out For Life will take place Thursday, March 4, with participating restaurants donating one third of patrons food bills for the day. The proceeds from Dining Out for Life will be given to AIDS Delaware in Wilmington to help them to provide direct support for persons in Delaware living with AIDS and help to fund prevention and education programs for Delawares youth and gay community. Dining Out for Life is an easy way to support the services of AIDS Delaware, and it is fun. For more information, call AIDS Delaware at 302-652-6776, or check their web site at http://www.aidsdelaware.org and ask your friends to join you for dinner. Is your employer among the few? We are also collecting copies of these policies. If your employer has a policy, please contact Deborah Gottschalk by email at: Deborah_I._ Gottschalk@diamond.net.udel.edu and, if possible, fax or send a copy of the policy to the ACLU-DE Civil Rights Project, 100 W. 10th Street, Suite 309, Wilmington 19801, fax: 302-654-3689. |
