Henlopen Theatre Has It Exactly As You Like It! |
After more than a year of organizing, fundraising and planning, the Henlopen Theater Project is about to kick off its first official equity production for the Cape area. As You Like It, William Shakespeares convoluted romp of revenge, romance, mistaken identities and, yes, even wrestling, will open on Wednesday, July 28 at the Little Theatre at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes. The show, under the direction of award-winning stage director Jim Petosa, represents an alliance between the Henlopen Theater Project and the National Players of Olney Theatre. Petosa and his troupe of Shakespearians will play six performances only at the beach, July 28-Aug. 1. As You Like It, one of Shakespeares most imaginative shows, features a bevy of brides, lots of joyful confusion, a quadruple wedding and all the courtly characters youd expect the jester, the rightful Duke, banished brothers, family squabbles, a poet leaving his poems like graffiti on the trees, masquerading lovers and no shortage of amusement. For tickets for one of the six performances, call the Henlopen Theater box office at 302-226-0358. With only a handful of performances, tickets will be at a premium. So, mark your calendars and call to reserve your tickets. Henlopen Theater Project Artistic Director Lisa Pelikan calls the show "part of our vision of producing outstanding work for the Cape Region, and a step towards the Theatre Projects goal of establishing a permanent, year-round performing arts center here." Petosas work has been seen at the Kennedy Center, and the Olney and Studio theatres, among others in the Washington D.C. area, and at New Yorks Theatre Studio. Hes directed many performance programs for the Smithsonian Institute, and been nominated and has won the prestigious Helen Hayes Award for his work. No stranger to The Bard of Avon, in addition to As You Like It, Petosa has directed numerous Shakespeare scripts including Taming of the Shrew, Othello, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, and Much Ado About Nothing. His less classical efforts have included the contemporary plays Peter Pan, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jacques Brel, The Miracle Worker, and many more. Henlopen Theater Project will present As You Like It beginning with a low-priced preview on Tuesday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. curtain on July 28. There will be a 4 p.m. performance July 29, an 8 p.m. show on July 30 and 31, and a final performance at 2 p.m., Sunday August 1. Ticket prices are $15 for all performances except the preview on July 27, which will be only $7.50. All students will receive a special $5 ticket price for all performances. For reservations and information, call the Henlopen Theater box office at 302-226-0358. |
