After all the excitement of the 4th of July holiday, I thought it would be nice to take a little R and R break, and go crabbing with a couple of friends last Saturday on the bay. Being a Yankee, I never went crabbing before I moved to Delaware. Actually, I had never heard of Maryland Steamed Crabs. Immediately after tasting my first one, I was hooked. I became so obsessed, I was eating them every night. Eventually I had to give up my crab addiction, because my friends were threatening to send me for counseling, not to mention my hands started to look like I put them through a paper shredder. Anyway, between Brooke, Melia, and myself we caught about 3 1/2 dozen. We decided to steam them at my house, on the side burner of the barbecue grill. So we stopped to get a new tank of propane, some fresh vegetables at Tomato Sunshine, and a loaf of that awesome Spinach Feta bread from Its a Wonderful Loaf Bakery. I lit the grill and went in the house to give the girls a hand with the veggies. About 5 minutes later we smelled something burning. We looked out the window and the entire grill was engulfed in flames. We called 911 as we tried drowning it with the garden hose. My neighbor Bob came running over with a fire extinguisher, but nothing would work. Finally, when the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department arrived, they were able to put it out. It ended up being a faulty valve on the propane tank. We gave the crabs to Bob and decided to go to the Crab Barn Restaurant for the "All You Can Eat Crab Special." We then headed to Loris Cafe in the CAMP Courtyard to relax with an espresso. At first we thought she was having some kind of a mens night, but soon realized it was because Jason LeBrun was working. It seems all these guys were buying out the store in order to get a glimpse of that cutie whos been charming everyone he meets. It was almost 10 p.m., so we were off to the weekly Splash Party at The Beach House Restaurant, to hear the sounds of DJ Jam Foks and dance. Some familiar faces were Sharon Guiles of the Bon Vivant Foundationwhich was responsible for the "Corona Invitational" Tennis Tournament, sponsored by The Beach House RestaurantMary Snider, winner of the tournament, Terri Ryan, Margy McHale, Nini Vasagam, Lita Weiss, Laurie Levin, and Donna Wilson of HRC. After hours of dancing and cocktails, a few of us decided to go to breakfast at The Crystal Restaurant. In case you havent heard, they are now open 24 hours on Friday and Saturdays. I was on deadline the rest of the week, but still made time for Plumb Locos "Best Karaoke at the Beach." When I walked in Peg Fuller was up before a wild audience singing "I Will Survive." Dont miss Da Girls featuring Shelley Abbott every Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. It is truly a unique Karaoke experience. By the way, if you havent noticed, we changed the name of my column. We seemed to think this one was more suitable...... see you around town! Jason LeBrun of Lori's Cafe. Melia Hartley and D.J. Brooke. Peg Fuller surviving!
