Our Place is Open on Baltimore Avenue! |
The cozy, delightful Our Place Restaurant & Garden Patio is now open at 37 Baltimore Avenue. While the rest of us will consider it "our place" once we get to know the great menu and comfortable, homey atmosphere, for the owners, Deb Ivanor and Maryanne Miller, "Our Place" is much more than just a nameits a labor of loveincluding not just a little "sweat equity."
The women moved here in May 1998 and spent a whole year checking out Rehoboth restaurants, trying to see if their vision would have a niche here. Then, this winter, they got to work. They replaced the whole back of the building, refitted it with a kitchen and got into some major renovations. While the contractors were hard at work, both Deb and Maryanne pitched inthey could be seen in all manner of weather working in the back courtyard scrubbing equipment and doing demolition workwhatever was needed to get the place in shape. Meanwhile, they enlisted help from their families. Dads, Moms and siblings built the service bar, upholstered furniture, made the tablesout of the pine shelving from the previous shop!generally building a restaurant one day at a time. For artwork, they chose the work of celebrated French artist Guy Buffet, whose family, like Debs, was in the restaurant business. Buffets subjects are all restaurant patrons and staff, depicting the bustling Paris restaurant scene. Between the artwork and dramatic colored walls, Our Place is warm and inviting. The menu at Our Place (with Chef Danny Richards cooking along with Deb), which will open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, features sandwiches, salads and ambitious dinner entrees, including Arkansas pulled pork barbecue (with McLards Family Recipe, a Hot Springs tradition), ribs, pasta dishes, seafood, kebobs, medallions of pork with a Latin flair, and much more. Plans include outdoor dining in their back courtyard Admitted Type A personalities, Deb and Maryanne took it in stride when delays threatened their opening date, but note that "our great staff really got us throughthey are wonderful!" "We want people to come here and relax; no pressure, just good food," says Deb, "and I promise, they wont leave hungry!" For the past year, only Deb and Maryanne could call the establishment "Our Place." No more! Check it out! |
