LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
Speak Out |
Having attended the CAMPsafe Men's Retreat Weekend on October 2-3 and the three SAFE-TEA dances this past summer, I must applaud the herculean efforts of Bill Sievert in bringing these programs to successful reality. As Program Director for these events and the entire CAMPsafe campaign this year, Bill has implemented fun and novel ways of bringing home the AIDS prevention message. Attendees at the events participated in prevention education and reinforcement and enjoyed themselves thoroughly at the same time. I appreciate Bill's long hours of preparation for these events and thank him for such creative leadership. The 1999 program has definitely been a plus for the whole community. Rob Jordan, Media, PA Greetings! I hope this finds you well. The season went by so quickly this year, but I wanted you to know how much I have enjoyed the issues of Letters from CAMP Rehoboth. It is truly a wonderful publication for our community. As you know, MCC Rehoboth recently held a Yard and Bake Sale fundraiser. Thanks to the hard work of our members and friends and the willingness of folks like yourselves to publicize the event, we were able to raise over $500.00! At our recent Board of Directors meeting, the Board decided that we want to share half of the proceeds with our community. The work of CAMP Rehoboth immediately came to mind, since you have been so supportive of our ministry over the years. Please accept the enclosed donation as a small token of our appreciation for the past and as a pledge of partnership in the future. May God continue to bless and empower your organization. Wishing you Peace and Joy, Rev. Tom Bohache, MCC-Rehoboth Once again, we've been having computer difficulties, if you can use this for this month's issue, great, if not that's ok!! We all love reading Letters from CAMP Rehoboth, so thanks for sending them! Give my love to everybody there. The film festival sounds great, and I am envious!! Gregory Myers On behalf of SCAC, the Sussex County AIDS Committee, I would like to thank you for including SCAC again this year as the primary beneficiary of the SUNDANCE Benefit. SCAC's portion of this year's proceedsequal to $101,500.00 goes far in keeping SCAC financially sound. This money will be used in a variety of ways to keep this agency and its programs working to meet the needs of our community. On a personal note, this year was my fifth SUNDANCE, and each year I find that the event gets bigger and better! Was it only a few years ago when the SUNDANCE total broke a hundred thousand dollars and we thought that we had done the impossible? However, the impossible seems to be happening all the time, at least in this community. This year's total of $145,000.00 will be hard to beat, and yet somehow I think that next year we can do it! Why do I have such confidence? Because I have seen, time and time again, the tremendous generosity of this community. When I speak of "this community," I do not mean a local geographical area. Instead I mean a group of people bound together as they care for each other and for people living with HIV disease. Such compassion cannot be contained within the city limits of Rehoboth Beach. Rather it reaches out and includes people from throughout Delaware, as well as Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. I see it every year as hundreds of people show up and make SUNDANCE the magical time that it is. I see it when the "SUNDANCE community" makes Labor Day weekend a real "labor of love." Thanks again for sharing the magic with us, and thanks for being our partners in HIV/AIDS work here in lower Delaware. Glen Pruitt for the Sussex County AIDS Committee As World AIDS Day draws near, we at KSAP are reflecting on the many community members who have helped us serve our clients. CAMP Rehoboth is at the top of this list! Your financial support for our African American Health Conference and the donation of a Sundance print have been greatly appreciated. We commend Camp Rehoboth for all that you do for our community. Penny LeCates, Kent Sussex AIDS Program The ACLU Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights Project will be hosting its first ever downstate meeting (and perhaps the first large-scale organized gay-related legislative effort in Sussex County history) on Monday, November 29th at 7:30p.m. The meeting will be held at St. Peter's (Episcopal) Parish Hall at Second & Mulberry Streets in Lewes, Delaware. All are invited and welcome to join us in making this a successful effort to increase downstate participation in legislative efforts, better organize our LGBT community, and build a more powerful network of communication. Your participation is urgently needed. If you have any questions please call Corey and/or Doug at (302) 684-1032 or email: coreyanddoug@hotmail.com. Please pass this information on to anyone you feel would be interested in participating in our efforts to end discrimination in Delaware. We hope to see you there!
