Riding Into The Millennium |
The Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association proudly announces Atlantic Stampede '99 Regional Gay Rodeo. The biggest gay country/western celebration in the eastern U.S., it takes place in Gaithersburg, MD and Washington, DC, October 1-3.
The rodeo itself is staged at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center (fairgrounds) in GaithersburgI-270 at exit 11with two full days of combined competition. The event will draw cowboys/girls from throughout the U.S. and Canada, all vying to take home some of the purse winnings. In addition to traditional rodeo eventsbull riding, bronco riding and calf ropingthe rodeo will feature events in which anyone wanting to have fun can participate. The competition site will also have dancing, dance lessons and live entertainment in a festival atmosphere. A western bazaar, offering country/western crafts and apparel, rounds out the activities at the fairgrounds. Preliminary competition begins Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with the Grand Entry Parade at noon. Regular competition begins at 1:00 p.m. both days. On Sunday at 2:00 p.m. you won't want to miss the Seventh Running of the Dolly Madison Race. A special fundraising event, anyone can join in this improper reenactment of Dolly Madison's heroic attempt to save our national treasures while simultaneously fleeing from invading British troops during the War of 1812. The evening activities take place at the Hyatt Regency- Capitol Hill, 400 New Jersey Ave., NW, in Washington, DC. starting at 9:00 p.m. Washington's best country/western DJs will preside over a bevy of live entertainers from all over the country. You're sure to see plenty of Rehoboth Beach regulars partying at the Hyatt all weekend long.
