Even with hurricane Dennis lurking over our beaches with sporadic downpours and gusty winds, vacationers still packed the area for the last summer blowout of the century! It seems shopping, dining, and Rehoboth's night life kept the crowds happy, according to many local business owners who reported record breaking sales numbers. The notorious Ladies Tea Dances, hosted by DJ Jame Foks, were the usual phenomenon at the Renegade Resort. Each year the event draws an increasing amount of women from D.C., Baltimore, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. This time, in addition to the high energy music and promotional giveaways, there was a Wet T-shirt Contest and it had the crowds going wild. You can always expect the unexpected with never a dull moment. Sundance 99a huge success thanks to everyone who gave their support and generous contributionswas the best ever. After expenses, we raised $145,000! It far surpasses any fundraiser ever held in southern Delaware. Speaking of fundraisers, mark your calendar for the Second Annual Breast Cancer Benefit, sponsored by The Beach House Restaurant and CAMP Rehoboth on Saturday, September 25. The evening will start off with a silent auction at 7 p.m., followed at 10 p.m. by a live auctiondinner dates at great restaurants, and weekend getawayswith everyone's favorite diva, Dominique Taylor holding the gavel, and DJ Tommy Walton providing the music. Besides having a great time, your contributions will all be used in the fight against breast cancer. Happy Birthday to Donna Wilson on Sept. 23. She will celebrate with partner Laurie Levin. The party starts at their new summer home with a house full of guests coming for the weekend, including Claire Lucas, Joanne Friedenson, PJ Johnson, Tracy St. Pierre, Donna Betts, and Ann Crowley. Expect to see them Friday, Sept. 24 at the Renegade for the season's finale of the Christopher Peterson Show. And Saturday, Sept. 25 they'll be ready to bid at the Breast Cancer Auction. Rumor has it that Laurie is planning to max out the platinum bidding on anything her birthday girl desires. The Annual Employee Drag Show at the Renegade Resort had an enormous turnout, with area businesses performing song and dance in some of the most creative costumes you could imagine. It's an end of summer event that is not only entertaining, but gives all of us an opportunity to say hi to all the local residents we hardly see in the summer because of our busy schedules. Don't forget all the fall festivities still to comethe Autumn Jazz Festival, Sea Witch on Halloween, and the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival, and of course the ever popular Fall Sidewalk Sale.
