Photography Exhibit at the Dream Caf The Dream Caf, 26 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, is hosting a photography exhibition by Kevin Byrne, June 9 through July. Kevin's works are extraordinary infrared images of ordinary buildings, structures, gardens, landscapes and monuments. According to Kevin, infrared film is unpredictable, it breaks the normal rules of photography and light and creates unbelievably beautiful images. Infrared film produces dream-like images, giving outdoor settings an almost ethereal quality. Foliage and grass appear snowy and white, even when the photo is taken on a bright summer day. The chlorophyll, leaf and cell structures of the plants absorb visible light while reflecting infrared radiation. Buildings and other structures often "glow" with infrared, appearing to have a halo surrounding them. These structures merely reflect the visible light as longer infrared radiation, causing the objects to appear luminous. Kevin, a self-taught artist, has been a photographer for over eighteen years. Dream Caf is open seven days a week. For information, call 226-2233. HTP to Produce CAMP Youth Writer's Play The Henlopen Theater Project will produce two new plays this summer. As part of their New Works/New Voices series which promotes the development of new plays by new playwright they will present Stones by 18 year old local playwright Kristen Foery. Kristen, who recently graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, will attend Dartmouth College in the fall. She is also an award winning youth journalist, having won the prestigious Vice Versa award for her columns for Letters from Camp Rehoboth. HTP managing director, James FitzSimmons says that 'Kristen is the best example of what New Works/New Voices is about, she is definitely a new playwright and this program will give her the chance to work with some top notch actors to hear and improve on the play and her writing." 'It is quite a moving play and Kristen has a good eye for structure. Besides that she is an amazing person," says FitzSimmons. Stones will star actress Helen Piper Coxe, who was on Broadway in last year's TONY award winning play Sideman, among others. After each performance Kristen and the cast will talk with audience to get their input and response. Stones will be performed on July 14 and 15 at 8:00 at the Little Theater at Cape Henlopen High School. Tickets are $10/$5 for students under 18 and $3 for HTP subscribers. |
