The Retreat: A Gay Men's Support Group |
The Community Center Project of CAMP Rehoboth announces the sponsorship of a new initiativeA Gay Men's Support Group, "The Retreat", meeting every Monday night beginning July 10th. As part of the Community Center's mission to create and nurture a focal point for connecting people, activities and resources, The Retreat's weekly meetings will be an environment for gay men of all ages to openly discuss issues and concerns that are most important to them. The Community Center Project's scope is unfolding to reach out to the community, and in doing so, to extend opportunities to persons living outside Rehoboth as well as to those who live nearby. Gay men are welcome from all areas of the State for participation in meetings that will be enriched by diverse groups of people getting together for meaningful discussions. This new group for gay men will create a dimension of understanding and support for critical aspects of gay men's lives. Subjects may range from relationship and sexual concerns to coming out, health or socialization issues. Gay men can come to a safe place to get support and to be supportive. The group facilitator for The Retreat is Peter Robinson. Peter has a masters degree in social work (MSW) and has over 10 years experience in peer counseling and facilitating support groups. He was a member of the Gay Men's Counseling Collective in Washington, DC and has facilitated support groups here and in Northern New Jersey. Most recently, Peter was employed as a counselor for the Kent/Sussex AIDS Program in Georgetown and in Dover. The Retreat will meet at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. The meetings will take place every Monday night from 7 9 p.m., beginning July 10th. There is no charge to attend, and no registration is required. Look for ads and flyers in the coming weeks, or for more information, contact Kathy Weir at the CAMP office, 302-227-5620. |
