Millions of Gays Back the GOP |
by Jerry Lamb and Ed O'Connor |
On election day, Tuesday November 7, 2000, millions of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered Americans across the country will go to the polls and cast their vote for George W. Bush, Richard Cheney and hundreds of other Republican candidates for public office. In contrast with the inclination of the media to portray individuals as single-minded members of a group and despite the misguided so-called leaders of our community who shamelessly promote Democrat candidates, thoughtful gays and others will reject the politics of special interests and endorse the benefits of freedom espoused by George W. Bush and the majority of GOP candidates. After decades of empty rhetoric and unfulfilled promises, it's time to reject Democrat candidates who ask us to donate money to them, vote for them, and march lock step behind their failed leadership as evidenced by the Clinton/Gore administration which has been responsible for more gay people being drummed out of the military than any other administration in our nation's history. Republican candidates are prepared to deliver on promises of empowerment. George Bush is committed to equal opportunity for all without discrimination due to sexual orientation. Richard Cheney stated that he thought people ought to be able to form personal partnerships without government interference. Senator Bill Roth has voted in favor of key gay issues promoted by the Human Rights Campaign. John Burris, candidate for governor, has a proven record of anti-discrimination. John Brady is a local gay Republican running for the office of Register in Sussex County Chancery. All these candidates support limiting government intrusion in our bedrooms, our finances, our enterprise, and our lives. Freedom empowers us to achieve our full potential. The politics of personal responsibility liberates us from the shackles of dependency which have enslaved so many other minority groups in our country. We invite you to join millions of gay people throughout this land who will vote for George W. Bush and other GOP candidates and send a message to the Democrat party in November. No more lies.... NO MORE GORE! Jerry Lamb and Ed O'Connor live and work in Rehoboth Beach. |
