CAMP Rehoboth and the Community Center Project |
by Dan Goren |
With the receipt of numerous initial donations throughout the summer, the new Founder's Circle Capital Campaign, in existence for just a few months, has already become a viable project that is destined for success. The goal of raising $1Million over five years to build or buy a facility for a Community Center may appear to be daunting, but it is a goal that is definitely achievable, given the level of activity and interest that has already taken place.
As questions about future plans and programs are asked and answered, the number of people pledging their commitment continues to grow. Some are committing their financial resources to the Campaign, while others are committing their personal involvement to the Projectboth critically important to achieving overall success. Asking questions, raising concerns and suggesting new ideas for programs and activities continues to generate ongoing enthusiasm for creating a permanent and inclusive center for our community. Following is an update on some of the existing programs, information on getting involved in specific activities, and answers to several frequently asked questions. Frequently Asked Questions Q. Has a site for the Community Center been selected and where will it be? A. A site for the Community Center has not been selected, however, the exploration process has begun. The current focus is to search for an available property or an existing building in downtown Rehoboth Beach. The downtown area is not only a focal point for visitors in the summer months, but has become a very supportive environment drawing in residents from all over Sussex County on a year around basis. Even before the financial goals are completely met, when a site with potential is identified as available, it may be possible to immediately lock into it, with ownership and occupancy taking place in the future. Q. Is the Community Center Project planning other activities in addition to the current support groups? A. Discussions are already underway about initiating new activities for this fall and winter. Suggestions have come in about creating interesting social events that would broaden participation in the Community Center Project. Suggestions range from Discussion Groups to Book Clubs and from Roller Rink Parties to a Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner. All the suggestions would be meaningful additions to the existing activities in the area. Not only are these suggestions welcomed, but so are individuals who want to help organize and coordinate them. Look for upcoming announcements this fall regarding new activities, and also look below at the New Volunteer Opportunity section to learn how to get involved. Q. Has the Founder's Circle received pledged donations at all the different levels of giving? A. Over the past three months the response has been extremely gratifying, with pledges being made at every level of giving. The following is a breakdown of the number of pledges received to date for each level of giving: 6 (couples or individuals) at the $100-$249 level; 2 at the $250-$499 level; 6 at the $500-$999 level; 8 at the $1,000-$2,499 level; 8 at the $2,500-$4,999 level; 9 at the $5,000-$9,999 level; 1 at the $10,000-$14,999 level; and 8 at the $15,000 + level. As you can see, with such a variety of levels, there is an opportunity for everyone to be included. For more information and a brochure about the Founder's Circle Capital Campaign contact the CAMP office at 302-227-5620. Program Updates The Inner Child Workshop: An eight (8) week program for Men and Women which concludes on Sunday, August 26. The workshop goal is to release the participants' personal power and restore balance to their lives. The goal is accomplished by individuals intensely focusing on their current problems and relating them to their childhood source. Dave Dagenais, the workshop facilitator, plans to announce a second Inner Child series later in the Fall. Sistertalk: Gay Women's Social and Discussion Group meets every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Rehoboth Public Library (first Thursday of the month at Sand in my Shoes). This group is now in its second year and attracts between 15-35 women at each meeting. Members find the meetings to be a place where meaningful discussions and the sharing of ideas can easily take place, and where interesting social activities are planned. However, the most wonderful attribute of Sistertalk is the creation of a group that is focused on being extremely supportive of all those who attend. New members are always welcome. Volunteer Opportunities NEW: Event Planner/Coordinator: Seeking individuals who are interested in planning and organizing new social events for the Community Center Project during the fall and winter months. This is a great opportunity for people to use their creative abilities while making a difference in the community. This activity requires good organizational skills and being able to follow through on detail in a self-starting environment. ONGOING: Grant Proposal Writer: The Community Center Project is searching for individuals who have experience in researching and writing grant proposals for submission to charitable foundations and other organizations. This activity supports the goals of the Founder's Circle Capital Campaign to raise funds for creating the Community Center. Excellent writing skills and experience in preparing and submitting proposals are needed, along with a desire to make a meaningful contribution and become involved through volunteering. Those interested in the above opportunities should call the CAMP office at 302-227-5620. |
