This year's more than $40,000 is to be distributed to the Sussex County AIDS Committee (SCAC), CAMP Rehoboth, The Women's Project and Rehoboth Main Street. ARCHIBALD'S ART SELLS OUT. Murray Archibald's opening reception for his new collection, transFORMations, was only two hours long, but that's all he needed to sell every painting in the house. Congratulations, Murray! Thanks for brightening our homes with your remarkable visions. Murray's paintings can be seen at the Blue Moon (35 Baltimore Ave.) until July 31st. If you missed your chance to buy one of Murray's paintings, you can commission him to create one for you. He can be reached at 302-227-5620. Now that LOVE has come and gone, it's time to set our sights on Rehoboth's biggest event of all: SUNDANCE. Sundance is a two-day benefit that takes place over Labor Day weekend. It includes an amazing silent and live auction on the first day (with auctioneer Chris Riss), and a dynamite end-of-summer "open bar" dance on day two (with DJ Mark Thomas). Produced by CAMP Rehoboth, Sundance benefits the Sussex County AIDS committee (SCAC) and CAMP Rehoboth. For information on becoming a host, sponsor, volunteer or to donate an item to the auction, call CAMP Rehoboth at 302-227-5620. Or, visit the spectacular Sundance website at www.SundanceBenefit.com. PARTY CALENDAR UPDATE. House parties are definitely in full swing (see "Weekend Rap-Up"). More are on the way... Randy Marshall and Tommy Gibson of 330 Beech are doing their annual Full Moon party on August 4th, but they are also hosting a "kick-off" to this dance benefit at the Blue Moon on Saturday, July 14th from 5 8 p.m. DJ Tommy Walton is spinning. 1 Robinson is having a dirty cocktail party on Saturday, July 21st from 5 8 p.m. Rehoboth veteran, Joe Kekeris, has announced the theme: "GayWatch: The Deep Rescue." Hmmm...I wonder if they can save Tom Cruise? 200 New Castle is hosting their version of a dirty cocktail party called "Dirty in Pink" on Saturday, July 28th from 5 8 p.m. Costume requirement: Wear something pink. Suggestion to the hosts: It would be really cool if you painted the outside of your house PINK. <wink, wink> And you won't want to miss 312 Bayard's "Shoot Out at the K-Y Corral" on Saturday, July 28th from 9 p.m. midnight (see "Beach House of the Week"). One can only imagine how they're going to decorate the yard. Just put on your best western impression and expect some gunfire with a very different type of ammunition. Hint: This isn't Bonanza. Boneranza is more like it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To CAMP Rehoboth's Steve Elkins who turned 51 July 2nd. (Was that Steve, Murray Archibald and Sondra Arkin celebrating at Funland?!) 3 Victoria Square's Gene Cavazos celebrated another year at a party at David Sherman and Karl Zoric's fabulous Sanibel Village digs. Scott Thureen of 605 Scarborough turned 34, and a marvelous party in honor of Wes Combs' 37th was held at 113 Columbia. Happy Birthday shout outs also go to 605 Scar-borough's Basar Akuzzu (30) and 10 St. Michael's Joe Coates. CHEERS! To Cloud 9 restaurant/bar as it celebrates its 7th anniversary on July 22nd with DJ Bumper. JEERS! To all the Party Poopers. (You know who you are.) Like it or not, house parties are a big part of Rehoboth's beach house culture. Most of them are open to the public. No one criticizes you for not attending them...so quit criticizing those who do. BEACH HOUSE OF THE WEEK. 312 Bayard. The only beach house in Rehoboth to throw TWO house parties in one summer thanks to two separate groups that summer therethe "A" group and the "B" group (And, no, those aren't social status rankings). 312 Bayard "A" is hot off the success of "Soul Train 1977," which was the first house party of the summera gutsy move that only a few houses dare make. Now that their party was a hit, all parties that follow will have to measure up. As for the "B" group, their upcoming "Shoot Out at the K-Y Corral" on July 28th from 9 p.m. midnight should be worthy of a few Poodle Award nominations. They've even joined the beach house website bandwagon at www.zzapp.org/jas/beach. Both groups are seasoned players in the world of house parties. Here's a look at how they've shaped summers past: 2001: A group: "Soul Train '77" B group: "Shoot Out at KY Corral" 2000: A group: "Gladiators" B group: "Military Heat" 1999: A group: "Wild, Wild West" B group: "Cocktails & Cockrings" 1998: A group: "Gilligan's Island / Tacky Tiki" B group: "Pajama Party" 1997: A group: "Cocktails with the Clampets" WEEKEND "RAP-UP" The July 4th holiday was a weeklong extravaganza. So much to mention, so little space in this column. I'll give you the abridged version (if you can follow it). Here goes nothing... The week kicked off with a kick-off for Blue Ball at 322 Laurel. Fabulous. Even Olivia Newton Ron made a guest appearance with the help of 312 Bayard's Jeff Sitzlar. We said "bye" to Lyle Sackie at 110 Philadelphia and survived 605 Scarborough's "Zoo Party" before heading over to the LOVE dance benefit to worship that gargantuan disco ball as she entered the room to the sound of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Did I mention the after-party at 22 Terrace? The next day, we had the chance to meet "Charo" at Yum Yum's "Love Boat" Tea Dance. We think it was Cliff Lassahn under all that make-up, but it's hard to tell because he's such a good drag queen (I mean ILLUSIONIST!). The LOVE sponsor party at 31 Olive, home of Mickey MacIntyre and Scollay Petry, was the envy of all those passing by (mainly because it was raining, and we were up on the porchDRY). Then, FIREWORKS! Ooooh, Aaaaahhh! Fast forward to Wednesday evening where members of 321 Laurel and 3 Victoria Square dressed to the nine's for Yum Yum's "Red, White & Blue" Tea Dance. Later, DJ Brian Norwood worked pure magic at Cloud 9, reminding us that good music still existsthe kind that people used to flock to Rehoboth for. Play it and they will come! Daredevil Gene Cavazos is taking rafting lessons under the instruction of ex-Survivor and River Guide Kelly Wigglesworth. The $100,000 runner-up of the hit TV show is teaching Gene the finer points of staying afloat. "It's simple," says Gene. "It's all about the number of friends you can knock out of the boat." Finally, it was the Saturday we thought would never enda day that saw a string of events longer than the hair on Cher's head. It started with a pool party at 4 Bay Harbor, home of Steve Ranger and Dan Patton. Then, the Victory Fund called on Rehoboth to join them for a fundraiser at the 16 Dover home of Howard Menaker and Patrick Gossett. Your Roving Reporter, Glenn(da) of RBG fame hosted a BBQ at 55 Branchwood followed by an "Auntie Mame" big screen viewing at 228 Country Club. "Happy Birthday" was sung at 605 Scarborough for Scott Thureen and 113 Columbia for Wes Combs, respectively. And to cap it off, the anticipated "Soul Train Music Awards" courtesy of 312 Bayard's "A" group. Once again, attendance was high, decorations were flawless and costume participation was downright magnificent. David Campbell, David Shotwell, Michael Kronander, Breck Hall and the whole gangBravo!
