LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth |
Speak Out |
I think all of Rehoboth should give Kathy Weir a standing ovation for her hard work and dedication to CAMP Rehoboth. She is by far one of the most organized, helpful and devoted employees that CAMP Rehoboth has and will ever see. I can understand why others would want to "steal her" from you. I call the CAMP office at least once every day during the week. Deadline or not, Kathy always assists me with whatever I need with patience and professionalism. But most of all, Kathy is a great person inside and out and I just wanted to say "thanks" to her. There ought to be more people like Kathy in the world.
Tom Minnuto As a new single mom to a 13 year old girl, I suddenly realize the need to have a way of connecting with other GLBT parents and their children for both support and socialization. Because of this, I hope to start a Rehoboth area parents and kids group, for both "locals" and regular or even occasional visitors. The main focus will simply be a casual get-together in queer and child-friendly environments, with the side benefit of making connections with other LGBT parents and allowing our children to make friendly, supportive connections as well. I will more than likely plan age- specific activities as wellfor parents and toddlers or parents and teens. And ultimately I'd love to have a "Family" weekend right here in Rehoboth! I also plan to create an online "connections" website and message board service for people to share info about queer and family-friendly places to stay and things to do, to allow families visiting Rehoboth to connect with each other on weekends that we don't have an activity planned, and just share thoughts on being a queer parent. Before I start on the bulk of the work for this, I'd love to hear from GLBT parents who might possibly be interested in participating in these activities and/or accessing the internet resources, so that I can best gauge the level of interest and types of things you want to do and need to know. Email InstaMom2Teen@aol.com, or call me at 302-947-1917 if you have questions, if you want to be added to the mailing list, if you'd like to help get this off the ground in any way, or if you'd like to share your ideas about the types of things that would be useful to LGBT parents and their kids. Also, please let me know if you know of any resources like this for other cities, so that I can get ideas! Leslie Vincent |
