LETTERS Cover Artist Opens Studio |
Samie Decker will host the grand opening of her art studio, located in the Wooden Teak Village Warehouse, 110 Rehoboth Avenue, Saturday, May 19.
The paintings on exhibit are the result of experimenting with a new medium. The giclee prints are of colorful beach environments with moving and dancing nudes. Although nudes are traditionally accepted as works of fine art, this series was being considered in a local venue where the nudes were determined to be risque and inappropriate. While drifting off to sleep one night, Samie got the idea to paint clothes on them, which she says reminded her of playing with paper dolls as a child. Some of the figures have been transformed into a mermaid or a fairy godmother. Samie states, "I was fortunate to have many great teachers who supported my creativity throughout elementary, middle, and high school. A memory that still influences me today is when my junior high art teacher whispered in my ear, "always paint from your imagination." The May 19 reception is at 7 p.m. Limited edition prints will be available, including prints of the mermaid on the cover of this issue of Letters From CAMP Rehoboth. The public is invited to join Samie for an interesting and informative art exhibition, as well as delicious refreshments catered by Beautiful Foods. Samie Decker's work is exhibited in her studio at Wooden Village Teak as well as in the new Legends & Lore Gallery located at 4 Mariners Square. |
