In Brief |
Relive Rehoboth's Past Month by Month The thirteen scenes in this calendar are from the book, Rehoboth Beach Memoirs, by James D. Meehan (Harold Dukes, Publisher). The book contains an outstanding collection of vintage photos depicting the history of Rehoboth Beach, dating back to 1873. Each scene represents Rehoboth as it was in the particular month. This calendar is the first in a series depicting the history of Rehoboth Beach. Each year, a new calendar will depict thirteen different scenes from Rehoboth Beach Memoirs. For each copy sold through CAMP Rehoboth (at the regular price of $12) the publisher is generously donating $4.25 to the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center Project. We accept Visa, MasterCard and AMEX. We'll even ship your calendar for $2 more. These beautiful and collectable holiday ornaments are sold to help support SCAC's client services programs. The Resounding Joy bells are symbolic of the call to have faith in the future and joy in the present. The base of the bells has interlocking red ribbons symbolizing AIDS awareness. This 3 x 3 inch ornament is solid brass with a 24 kt. gold and nickel finish with brightly colored enamels. Suspended from a red ribbon, the ornament comes ready to hang. Individual ornaments sell for $15 and are attractively boxed for holiday giving. Each piece is carefully crafted and suitable for personal holiday decorating or as a gift. The number of individuals and families served by SCAC's emergency financial assistance, transportation, food, and outreach programs continues to grow. The group will work with mentors, and center around community spirit. It is Regina's hope that with everyone working together, our children will be able to look forward to a productive future. Children can sign up to attend free workshops in art, music, crafts, creative writing, and culture in the community. Musicians, artists, writers and other interested locals have already agreed to donate their time to lead the workshops. Participants earn "points" through community service. Some activities that could be counted toward points are cleaning for the elderly, volunteering for community based non-profit organizations, helping out at school or church, or working for local businesses. Earned points can be used to purchase art supplies, books, musical instruments and the like. Local individuals and businesses can participate by making cash donations, "hiring" members of the group to work, or by donating supplies or offering discounts to the group. Workshop sign-up is from 4-7 p.m. on the 1st Tuesday of the month at Brew Ha Ha in Rehoboth Beach. For more information on this creative new project, contact Regina AaMacha at 226-1693.Milton Holiday House Tour Over the past few years Milton, Delaware has been experiencing a Renaissance and has become a sparkling showcase of historic homes. Statewide Meeting Focuses on ENDA Because it remains legal in Delaware and 38 other states to fire people simply because they are lesbian, gay or bisexual, your presence is needed at "Employing Equality: A Community Meeting on Ending Discrimination in the Workplace." Co-sponsored by the ACLU-DE Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights Project and the Human Rights Campaign, Employing Equality will bring together community members and activists to discuss how we can take action to end anti-gay discrimination in the workplace. Included in the discussion will be how you can help to pass H.B. 99, the Delaware civil rights bill and the national Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The event will be held on Thursday, December 6, at the Sheraton Suites Hotel located at 422 Delaware Avenue in Wilmington. The forum which will start at 7 p.m., has the support of both CAMP Rehoboth and Delaware Pride. HB 99 is a bill now before the Delaware state legislature that would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, public accommodations, housing, insurance and public contracts. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2001 (ENDA) is a federal bill that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in employment. Delaware Senators Joe Biden and Tom Carper are both co-sponsors of ENDA. Representative Mike Castle is currently not a co-sponsor of ENDA. For more information on HB 99, please log on to http://www.aclu-de.org/gaylesbian.htm. For more information on ENDA, please log on to www.hrc.org.
